Paris hotel for one night and dinner

We will be returning to Paris via TGV after two weeks in Provence, for one night, prior to flying back to Australia at 12 noon the next day (a Sunday.) Some friends from Australia will be in Paris and we hope to catch up for dinner on the Saturday night. Previously in Paris we have gone for economy in apartments having had kids with us. As this will be our only night in Paris this trip, we thought maybe give more thought to a nice location (eg view of the Eiffel tower?) as well as convenience to transport. What would the Paris experts suggest? Would a budget of maybe 150-200 euros be reasonable? Also, where to meet our friends for dinner - not necessarily top of the range but 'nice' mid range? Thank you.

Stay at Ira's great favorite, the Bonaparte, and have dinner in the 13th at Au Petit Marguery, a delightful and delicious bistro.

Thanks. Are these hotels easy to get to CDG the next day and from the TGV?

Hi OZ,

I second the suggestion to stay at the Bonaparte.

They will arrange for a shuttle to take you to the airport - about 18E each.

You could have dinner at

Brasserie Lipp
Vagenende
La Mediteranee (highly recommended)
Le Petit Zinc (also highly recommended)

all in the 'moderate' range and in walking distance from the hotel.

Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. About 124E dbl w/bkfst

Tel 33 1 43 26 97 37
FAX 33 1 46 33 57 67

For more info, enter "Hotel Bonaparte" in the "search this forum" box.

We stayed at the Hotel du Champ de Mars, in the 7th, with a nice view of the top half of the eiffel tower. However, the hotel is lower in price (our room was 79 euro/night) and the rooms were tiny but cozy.

Although the Bonaparte may be fine for an inexpensive hotel, it strikes me as just a bit dowdy and not anything special for a mid-priced hotel. Also, the last two reviews on Trip Advisor were negative, with complaints about the cleanliness. The Hotel Henri IV is a better quality hotel, IMO, and still within the OP's budget.

Thank you all. Raisinette, I too am a bit perturbed by the last two reviews of Hotel Bonaparte on Tripadvisor (sorry Ira!)Will look into the Henri IV - after all the restaurant suggestions I wonder if we should have a couple of sittings!!
