Paris, hotel for a family of 4
Has anyone stayed in a hotel in Paris that is central and will cater for 2 adults and 2 children and not too expensive? I have found that many of the hotels will only allow 1 extra bed in the same room

We stayed at the Grand Hotel de France at 12 Rue de Lyon for 87E per night for a quad room. The location, near the gare de lyon is not perfect but the price and cleanliness was. This was a compromise location , not too far from the city centre and not too expensive. One plus, the marche Aligre around the corner was perfect for breakfast. They had fresh fruit and a cafe that seemd to cater to the vendors so the prices and ambience were more "local".

There are quite a few hotels in Paris that have "quads", although usually a hotel won't have very many rooms like that. Also, I think that usually (or always) NOT a regular room that they bring in two extra beds to. It is a larger room meant for four beds, or with an alcove, or often two connecting rooms. I have never heard of a hotel that would allow you to bring in two extra beds to a room meant for a double (doesn't mean they don't exist, I've just never heard of it).
What do you mean by not too expensive? Actually, this question has been discussed quite a few times on Fodors and there are a lot of good posts on it, if you do a search. Simply search for "quad and paris" while holding down france and you will get a lot of them. I"ve been looking a some hotels over near the Eiffel Tower/Invalides area and I think I saw the Relais Bosquet and Bourdonnais have such rooms (or what they call chambres communiquantes). Doug's suggestion is certainly very very low for a quad, if it suits you.

Hôtel Louvre Marsollier Opéra )13, rue Marsollier 75002) worked well for our family of 4. The hotel is clean, basic, airconditioned, with a tiny elevator. We had a "suite" of two rooms--one with double, one with two twins, each with bath.
The location is good--about halfway between the Opera and the Louvre...we walked most places in central Paris. Hotel is on a smaller street, with minimal traffic.
I notice they are asking EU300 for high season for the suite...a bit high, but you do get two rooms.

Our family of four stays in quads or two chambres communicantes in both the Hôtel de France (102 boulevard de la Tour Maubourg) and the Hôtel Duquesne (23, avenue Duquesne) with some frequency. Both hotels are in the 7me; former is less expensive than the latter (about $130 as compared to about $170 for four).

We stay at the St Andres des Artes on the left bank. We had five in our room in 1995 for less than $100 a night. It is quite eclectic, no elevator and a token breakfast, but there are great stores in the area. It is close to Notre Dame and near two metro stations -Mont St. Michel is one.
In an earlier post I referred to Sandra Gustafson's book Cheap Sleeps in Paris and the May 2002(I think) issues of Frommer's Budget Travel has a feature on inexpensive hotels in Paris.
I will try to find my last post and top it.

Quite some time ago we stayed at the Hotel Delambre in the quad. It was reasonably priced and not a bad place. Not upscale by any means but good enough. Clean and friendly and the metro station was just a block or less away.

3 years ago we stayed in a family room at Grand Hotel St. Michel in the Latin Quarter. It was a 2 room suite. The living room had a day bed and they brought in a rollaway. There was a mini bar and TVs in both rooms. It was not roomy by any means and did not have a view (faced and inside courtyard), but was clean, quiet and convenient. I think it cost somewhere around $200.
