Paris Hotel for 3
 

I am looking at hotels in Paris. Can you tell me which area is the best to stay in terms of safety and convenience for the major sights?

I will need a hotel room for 3 (I and 2 kids, aged 11 and 13). We will be there in August and our budget is around 300 to 350 euros per night.

Hotel Clement has a room for three people and is in the 6th arr. We really liked it. It was near one of the best pastry shops in the city for an early coffee or afternoon treat after touring.

They have just one or two 3-person rooms so reserve soon if it's interesting to you. The room we rented had a twin bed in one part of the suite and a double bed in the main room of the suite.

Have a look at the Hotel Residence Henri IV in the 5th. Nice neighborhood near the Sorbonne, and they have a few 2-room layouts. We liked it, as did friends who stayed there after we did.

We once stayed in the Hotel du Palais Bourbon in the 7th with three people. We were happy there. We liked the location so much that we went back and stayed on the same street.

Here are a couple of ideas for hotels now that I see your budget. Also you might want to note that at Novotel hotels accommodation and breakfast are free for 2 children under 16.

Their properties aren't going to be as quaint as some others but will have good beds and A/C :)

If you go that route, the one at Les Halles is my least favorite "exact" location but the the most central, but it would be okay. The others that are nice in Paris are the Tour Eiffel property and the 2 down by Montparnasse. The others get too far out IMO.

For more typical quaint Paris Hotels you might like Hotel Le Petit Chomel. They have connecting rooms which can work well for families and they have A/C and an elevator and the location is great.

Another hotel on the left bank closer to the Pantheon which is also a good location is the Hôtel Les Dames du Panthéon which has family rooms with a queen bed and 2 twins-again A/C and an elevator.

We've stayed at number of times at Le Regent, on rue Dauphine. It's a very central location, and lively. I'm not sure that the 3-person possibilities are listed on their website, but email them if they're not. They add a good-sized cot to their superior-sized rooms. It's a little snug, but has worked fine for my spouse and me and our teen-aged child.

Another option, the tidy, well run 3-star Hotel Muguet on a quiet street in the 7th, around the corner from Les Invalides. We've stayed there and at its sister hotel, the 3-star L'Empereur down the street, both run with aplomb by the same lady.

The Muguet has a triple room, 15 square meters, with a single bed and a double and a/c for under 200 euros in August
It also has a larger family room for 340/night in August but it may be more space than you need since it sleeps a family of 5.

The L'Empereur has a triple measuring 21 square meters and a quad room that has views of Les Invalides. The triple would fit within your budget in August.

I have also stayed at the Hôtel Les Dames du Panthéon. It is a lovely hotel in a great location, especially for children. My preference is Right Bank, but this was very nice and easy to get to/from CDG on the RER.

Considerably funkier (not in a bad way, IMO), last summer I stayed in the Hôtel Original and liked it a lot too, although it is a lower spec-level of hotel than Les Dames du Panthéon. They have a triple and a quad that would suit. Good breakfast, very nice people, central location on Blvd Beaumarchais right near Bastille. Dramatic decor in the rooms but not in the small lobby or breakfast room.

The Ibis Hotel in the 10th district is also great and not very expensive. It is near the St Martin Canal, so you can have a walk there with your kids, it is nice.

Another vote for the Muguet. We stayed there and absolutely loved it!

I stayed at the Muguet once and didn't care for it. The location is fine and it is clean but the room was about the smallest I've ever had in France and the staff wasn't pleasant. 15 m2 for a triple room is extremely small, I wouldn't even consider that unless it were a money issue (but that hotel is not cheap for its category).. They also have some odd stairs arrangements as it is really two buildings put together, I think, so there were some stairs just on my floor in getting from one part to another. Not 1-2, either, but more as I recall. 15 m2 is the size of a small, not superior, double room in the hotels I usually stay and there isn't much extra room around the double bed even then.

That budget is quite generous, in fact, as hotel rooms are on discount in many hotels in August in Paris.

This is one hotel I often stay at in Paris, and they have superior family rooms of 22-25 m2 for 200 euro or less in AUgust, I think. They have family suites of 32-35 m2 in August for less than 300 euro. They have an apt, also, you'd have to check (I think it is really two regular hotel rooms, not a true "apartment."

The HNotel Henri IV Rive Gauche has a triple for less than 200 in AUgust, I think.

Christina—the rooms at the Muguet must differ a lot. We had two rooms that were quite spacious. We had very pleasant interactions with the hotel as well.
