Has anyone stayed at Paris - Hotel Du Quai Voltaire? Any comments?

Any recommendations on places to visit and restaurants in the vicinity. We've done the usual tourist stuff several times in the past--and always enjoyed it.

Background: we are 62 and 75 years of age, have lived in southern France for a year, visited France every year for the last 25 years, and have spent two to four months a year at our cottage in the Bordeaux for the last 10 years.

A friend once stayed at the Voltaire and said that it was noisy.

If you're looking for recommendations on things to do in Paris let us know what type of things you like to do and the things you've done.

I haven't stayed but have read that rooms can be very noisy due to it facing a busy thoroughfare along the Seine... did you check comments on the reviews at Tripadvisor.com?

Looking for places to walk and places to eat in vicinity of Quai Voltaire.

We enjoy opera, ballet, and stores that sell unique garden and kitchen items and books.

We want to take a cruise at dusk and would appreciate opinions on the Bateaux-Mouches and also on Les Vedettes du Pont du Neuf.

Is it worth going to the Eiffle Tower for lunch?

We stayed at Hotel Du Quai Voltaire because Wagner stayed there. We only lasted one night. The back rooms look out on dirty airshaft and the front rooms are very, very noisey. They are right out on major street just where the motorcycles rive-up. All are rather run-down and tiny bathrooms. Then we read Wagner's letters from the hotel saying he was in dire financial straits...send money fast. The hotels on Rue Jacob are much nicer. Your cottage in Bordeaux sounds much nicer.

I've stayed there twice but the last time was 5 or 6 years ago. My experience was totally different - but maybe rooms on the lower floors are noisy. Both times I stayed there my room was on the top 2 floors and I was not bothered by street noise at all. The views from up there were wonderful. From my bedroom window I could see one of Notre Dame's towers, the river, the passing boats, the Louvre and down to the ferris wheel at Place de la Concorde.

My single room was quite small but the twin was large. The front desk staff was helpful, the lounge was nicely furnished, and the breakfast was fine (only ate there one morning - I don't usually have b'fast in Paris hotels.)

Like I said - my last visit was a few years ago so things may have changed. But based on my previous stays, I'd definitely stay there again.
