Paris: Hotel du Commerce? Or any other suggestions?

Hey all!

Trying to find accommodation in Paris. A colleague of mine just returned from a 5 day stay in Hotel du Commerce in the Latin Quarter - and she says it was fine, albeit very, very basic. We are two young travellers (27yrs) and thus not too worried about luxuries. Looked at the website and their offering double rooms for 59 euros (washbasin and showes, shared WC). This is about as much as we have to spend (65 euros max per room per night).

Has anyone stayed here? Is it okay? Or does anyone have any other suggestions. The main thing is the price and location (like to be central and safe - not in Montmartre).

If you do a search here (try Left Bank Hotels)...there are many, many recs. The Latin Quarter is a good area to stay.

Don't you trust your friends? I think since you know them and can talk to them, you should trust their advice and opinion more than someone else on here. YOu can check reviews on tripadvisor, also. You can't expect much for that rate, so it seems okay to me from what I know (it was closed for a long time due to renovations).

The other very cheap hotel I know is Hotel Tiquetonne over on the Right Bank. The problem with it is it doesn't have its own website (a lot of hotels that cheap do not). But you can read about it on www.eurocheapo.com I know some people like it for its rate, also.

I think their rates are 55 euro.

Here is another 1* in St Germain, but as you can see, even that one has 75 euro for a double

Same for this 1* in SG

NOw this one is a 1* but a little farther out, so cheaper

However, I stay around there and really like it and it is very convenient to the metro, so don't worry about that. It's only 53 euro.

Respectful of the two above posters, I don't think you'll find anything cheaper. If your friend told you this was fine, I think you may have to trust opinion.

I have never ever ever ever had a room that was so inexpensive. Even dormitory rooms have been more than that. So if someone you trust said it was fine, and it is at the top of your budget, I'm not sure there are any other choices.

You can look at the Left Bank Hotels thread, but I am guessing you will be wasting your time. I don't recall seeing anything on there that was even close to 65 euro.

And as far as an unshared WC at that price, in a very central location, I haven't heard of one.

But look at this: it's not that far out, it's easy to get around Paris, and this place has better ratings:

A hotel bit further out. I concur that that is a good price for central Paris.
