Paris - Hotel du Champs de Mars or Hotel du Turenne?
 

I am staying in Paris for a few days during the first week of July. I've read good things about both the Hotel du Champ de Mars and the Hotel du Turenne, but can't decide between them.

They are both in the 7e, on or near Rue Cler, and convenient to the Metro. Both are about 80E.

The Champ de Mars gets a lot more reviews, everybody loves it, and is right in the middle of Rue Cler. But it does not have A/C and everybody says the rooms are small.

The Turenne has fewer reviews, but has A/C.

How important is A/C going to be the first week of July?

Has anybody stayed at both hotels and can compare the two?

Can only comment on Champ de Mars - and liked it a lot - although it's been several years since I stayed there. Rooms were small, yes, but very cute and clean. Location was fantastic (although the same could obviously be said of the other hotel you're considering). We were there in June and air conditioning was not needed. Don't know about July.

We also stayed at Champ du Mars in 2002. Great location, and the room was very nice. Not extremely large, but certainly comfortable and decorated nicely. I would book their again if we return to Paris.

I think I read that not all the rooms at Turenne are air-conditioned so hopefully they'll honor the request.

Doesn't the Leveque have a/c? yes they do, for June 15 - Sept 15 only...

For several years I stayed only at the Champs du Mars. Been there every month of the year except Jan and Feb or March and never missed A/C. Great price, nice rooms and really a great all around choice. I don't stay there anymore cause I've had all the rue Cler I need for this lifetime. Get a room on the

I will also be in Paris during the first week of July, have booked a room at the Hotel de Turenne for a couple of nights. They have assured me that all their rooms have a/c.

Our corner room in 2001 didn't have a/c...but the hotel has been renovating some rooms, so perhaps that's been changed.
p.s. I liked the hotel quite well but we missed not having a minibar.
There's a little grocer on the next block, an ATM on the corner, and a laundromat across the hotel/side street. The food at Brasserie Ecole Militaire is good, but service can be a bit spotty. There was a Portuguese man on the desk during the off-hours who was very nice and friendly.

Champ du Mars is most likely already booked for July. we stayed there two yrs ago in March and liked it--rooms were attractive, well priced, and they have an elevator. We have been in Paris in August and found that lack of AC is not a problem with windows open just as long as your room is on the back so noise won't be a problem. Have you tried Hotel Muguet? It seems to be very well liked.

Thanks to all who have replied. I'm leaning towards the Champ de Mars, because so many people rave about it. Thanks for the 5th floor tip, LarryJ; I'll see if they'll do that for me.

Travelnut, since you've stayed at the Turenne can you comment on how close it is to Rue Cler? I can see on the map that it is around a corner from it. But since I've never been there I don't know if that means it is not part of the feel of the Rue Cler area.

Well, it's certainly walkable to rue Cler... the street it's actually on is a somewhat busy main road. If you can't get into Champ de Mars, Turenne is near enough, really only just a couple of blocks. Champ de Mars is on a busy street, too so either one will have about the same traffic noise (no problem w/ ac on and windows closed).
