PARIS HOTEL DILEMNA

Msg to Paula1740. I am taking one of my daughters to Paris and London and couldn't help but notice you have been to London before, can you tell me where you are staying, finally? I too am having difficulty choosing a budget hotel in Paris as all the good budget ones are fully booked in Sept.

Christaz, if you provide your dates for Paris (and London), folks might be able to help you with your dilemma. There are many decent budget hotels, they might be a tiny bit further out, say in the 15th or 14th...but that is not a problem at all.

can you please say what your nightly budget is? Do you want an elevator and a/c?

CHRISTA7 Aug 25th, 2004 10:31 PM

arriving Paris Sept.3rd, departing for London 9th-11th, returning to Paris, I would like to keep the nightly rate below $140 Euro or $100 GBP as I have to convert to Cdn Dollars.
Thanks everyone! I would like to be close to the fashion district, Oxford St. Soho.

Hi - Ref London Hotels - my husband has just booked with Travelodge. They have a fantastic offer on at the moment. Stay one night get one night free (ends 12th Sept) There are six central London locations to choose from. Around £45 for two nights ensuite double/twin. See www.travelodge.co.uk for more details.

Do you have a hotel for your stay in Paris beginning Sept 3rd yet? YOu'd really better get busy finding one, if not.

140 euro isn't that difficult for a double room, and isn't even that super-budget IMO. It's only very low if you want a 3* hotel (or higher) in a very expensive area like St Germain. Even there, I think you can do that in some 2* places like Grand Hotel des Balcons (or close to that rate). It is true the best values are booked up this close to a popular period, unfortunately.

YOu might want to try one of those last minute booking services, like www.laterooms.com

I tried it for Paris out of curiosity as to what would show up and many of the hotels are blocked out during some of your dates, and many more expensive, but they do show a few choices in your range that are 3* hotels. For example, the 3* Etoile Trocadero near the Trocadero/Boissoniere metro stops (which is a very nice area, good cafes and shops, good bus lines and metro connections -- short walk to the Trocadero with great views) -- for only 120 euro two of those nights and 135 euro the other nights (it's own web site www.hotels-exclusive.com lists it as normally 140 euro).

They also list the Citadines Bastille at only around 100 euro, which may not be charming (modern business-style hotel, as they say) but is the right price and convenient and has a kitchenette.

Thanks to those who responded! I finally booked 2 hotels in Paris and when I am there will check out all the ones I wanted to stay at that are booked for future reference!

What does that mean, you booked 2 hotels in Paris..? Did your party have to split up or something? Hopefully you are not holding rooms at 2 different hotels b/c you haven't made up your mind. If so, hope that is only for a very short time (to be fair to others in sharing same "dilemma" as you)...

Christa - Sorry I didn't get your message sooner, I actually just got back from my trip to London and Paris today. Had a great time, hopefully will post a short trip report soon. I saw that you had already booked your rooms in Paris which is a good thing because September is so busy. What did you end up with for London? We stayed at the Kingsway Hall Hotel for 79 GBP including VAT. The hotel was just as great as described on trip advisor. To get their lower rate you need to e-mail the hotel directly. The hotel is about 5 mins or less from Covent Garden, convienent to the theatre district and not too far from Soho and Oxford street. The Holburn station is a block away and Kingsway Street has restaurants, grocery, bank etc. The hotel personnel was very helpful. The hotel is also a short taxi ride to Waterloo station if you are using the Eurostar to get to Paris. Let me know if you need more info. Have a great trip.

christaz, i was browsing this site as we are going to paris soon too! and i was wondering if u considered renting a flat? i found some wonderful flats in great locales for the amount you are willing to spend on a hotel. also, the room size in a flat would be twice to what you would pay. one of the more reasonable ones would be yourparishome.com, her name is Lauren and she manages a bunch of flats in paris on Rue coty, steps from 5 and 6 arrondissments. she actually has some available soon, ask about apt 8 and 3. she was willing to book this two bedroom classically nice apartment for only $130u.s.a nite!!! that is a steal.
apt3 is also great. you must ask for last minute discounts. dont be SHY! they will do everything to accommodate you. also, we found quite a few that gave lower rates on vrbo.com. if this doesnt work out, let me know, i can refer you to other sites. another great one is Parishideaways, they were super helpful too! their apt comtesse in the marais district is beautiful!
For more luxurious accommodations, Parisperfect.com is the BEST!!!!! they list only the most beautiful apts that have direct views of the eiffel, some are pricey, but well worth it. this is who we are using too! they can arrange everything for you and your daughter.
hope you do well!

I imagine Christa probably rented two hotels because she has a split stay in Paris -- one stay at beginning and another at the end.

Kitty, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are trying to help, but since this is your very first post touting a particular apt. and owner, and repeating advertising phrases like "steps from 5 and 6 arrondisements", I am a little skeptical. IN any case, it is certainly not always true that you get double the space in an apt. for the same price as a hotel. And I know those apts you are touting and exactly where they are, and they are not "steps" from 5 and 6 arrondisements. IN fact, that part of ave Rene Coty has a lot of construction on it, building renovation, is not particularly charming and is rather far out. I would never recommend that location to a first-time tourist to Paris. Furthermore, some people have had problems renting from Ms. Marsolier and her not answering emails or even letting them know their rental situation when they were due to arrive in Paris in a few days -- I know because I had to help one woman on here track down her relatives in the French phonebook because she wouldn't answer her phone calls.

In any case, I don't think that is a feasible option for someone in this situation who is going to be in Paris for a few days split into two time periods and is not familiar with the city, apparently.
