Paris hotel--budge

We are a family of 6, plus another couple, wanting to find budget lodging in Paris the first week of April. Years ago we stayed in the 6th Arr. but I cannot remember what the hotel was called. It was 2 star, breakfast downstairs, cat in residence and was a couple of blocks at most from the Lux Gardens metro. It would be great if someone recognizes that, but since I am so very vague, any clean, safe budget hotel in the area, preferably one within a block of a metro, would do.

We are not big on nightlife and will stay only 3 nights. We will be driving in from Germany but don't intend to drive once there.

Suggestions and advice are welcome and appreciated!!

:)

Hi kdk,

> It was 2 star, breakfast downstairs, cat in residence and was a couple of blocks at most from the Lux Gardens metro.<

There is a "Luxembourg" RER stop, not a metro stop.

Could you be thinking of the Hotel Bonaparte?

Napoleon the cat is now retired to the South of France.

PS,

What's your budget?

kdk1965 Feb 16th, 2009 03:53 AM

Awesome! Yes, it was the RER stop since we had flown in from Italy.

Our budget is relatively low, mostly because I would rather travel more, see more, do more than spend the money on a hotel. That said, I haven't been to Paris in 4-5 years and am just now starting the search.

Our friends are coming from Texas and this is likely going to be their trip to Europe. While visiting us in Germany we want to take them to Paris for at least 2 full days. They'll be here for about 2 weeks, one which I will be teaching during the week.

Thanks for helping me identify the hotel. We enjoyed it and as we were leaving the lady at the desk remarked on what polite children we have. Since the twins were only about 6, that was good news:)

Other lodging suggestions?

:)

kdk1965 - I was at my local bookstore sale yesterday and picked up " PARIS - HOTELS & MORE" by Angelika Taschen, photos by Vincent Knapp. I was delighted to see the hotel we had chosen for our May visit was featured!
It may just intrigue you they way it did us. Also has a super little restaurant on the premises.

Also featured at reasonable rates were:

Hotel Saint Merry

Hotel des Grands Hommes

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles (which we stayed at last year)

Hotel des Marronniers

Hotel d'Angleterre

Hotel Recamier

Hotel Verneuil

Other hotels featured were not budget so did not mention them.

We are also spending three days at:

One could not get any closer to Notre Dame!

For REAL budget but using a charmless chain hotel, look no further than The Ibis La Defense if you are in Paris from a Friday night to Monday morning - ONLY 49euros a double! We love it. 10min directly to Champs Elysees.

Hotel des Marroniers is very nice!

Hi kd,

Not from me.

I'm the tout for the Bonaparte. :)

It may have been the Hotel Jean Bart on rue Jean Bart about two blocks west of the Luxembourg Gardens.

I don't think they have a web site, just google them for their telephone number.

I have stayed there a couple times and the prices were on the low end, 55€ about five years ago. Don't recall seeing a cat.

tod, I have read quite a bit about El Dorado and am looking forward to your feedback. If I do end up making it to the Fodor's GTG on May 23rd perhaps you can fill us all in!

Those hotels on rue Jacob (d'Angleterre, des Marronniers) are great and may be good value for the money, but I don't think they are "budget lodging".
