Ira: Thanks so much for checking into this. The response you received is exactly what I wanted to hear. I will keep my reservations at the Hotel Bonaparte & hope others do as well. Hopefully, others will rest assured and do the same. And hopefully, the matter will be settled with Trip Advisor.
Why in the world would anyone do something so malicious (as to file a bogus negative review)? I just don't get it.

Gosh.. I got all teary-eyed reading this back and forth. It was so nice! And Productive! The other day I searched tripadvisor and agreed that the post was just a alicious "sniper".
Ira, that you did something about it! oh my ... that was just superb!
Next time I go (and I'm starting the process of saving change right now to return to Paris...) I'm going to the Bonaparte!!!

I have never been in the Bonaparte but think there is another explanation. I read that report and it is pretty specific. I find it hard to believe someone is posting such peculiar specific information that is entirely fictional. One, it could be another hotel with a similar name--that has happened on Tripadvisor and it happens on here to some degree, I've seen it more than once.
Second, and most likely -- it was a real incident given the owner does say they had a Portuguese desk clerk. I find that kind of odd if it were entirely fictional. The report does not state this visit happened in Jan/Feb or when it happened. That date is just the date the person posted their comments. It's possible it was a real event but happened when they had that clerk some years ago.
I have encountered, unfortunately, staff at certain hotels who do make noise and are bad employees. It's not impossible.

Hi Christina,
You have raised valid points. It is quite possible that a disgruntled former employee decided to slam the hotel.
But why would someone wait years to post a review?
The thing about this is, for those of us that know the hotel, that it is so totally out of character.

Someone could have just stumbled across TripAdvisor and then posted a review from a stay that occurred 10 years ago. I think I've seen reviews on TripAdvisor where the person said they were there 20 years ago. That's fine - so long as the approximate dates of the stay are mentioned.

My wife and I are planning on an October trip to Paris with our 13 year old granddaughter also. Would really like it if you would post your adventure with her when you return. What she liked, didn't like, etc. Thanks.

Ira, many thanks for following up on this. Your report is reassuring, and we (and others, we are sure) will stay at the Hotel Bonaparte as planned. We look forward to hearing your report when you return from your April trip. Thanks to all of you who commented on this message, and to Oberost, we will be happy to share our experiences with you when we return.

Hi awb and bar,
You can reach the Hotel Bonaparte by
Phone: 33 1 43 26 9737
or 5410
Fax 33 1 46 33 5767
They do not have a website or email.
As noted in this thread, Mrs Dumas was rather upset to learn that someone had written such a thing. She completely denies that it occurred.
I have been staying at the Bonaparte since 1984. I believe her.

Good to know that those comments on tripadvisor.com were false. I thought that they would be false anyway.
This is slightly related: Locanda Orseolo which has been recommended here has also gotten nasty comments on tripadvisor.com as well. They are false also. Barbara, one of the owners, has responded on tripadvisor.com.

HAR, we were in London last week and decided to take a last minute overnight trip to Paris.
We called the Bonaparte and were quoted a rate of 148E but followed up w/a fax requesting a cheaper rate and confirmed a double room for 115E.
This was our seventh visit to Paris, and our first stay in this hotel. We stayed in room #8 which faced on to R. Bonaparte but was still very quiet. The room and bathroom were a good size for Paris and although the furnishings/decor is quite dated, the rooms are very clean. (We did notice a couple of ants in the bathroom but it was an unseasonably warm day.)
Both the day and night managers spoke excellent English and were friendly and helpful. But the star of the show is, Napoleon, the resident cat. He is quite young and enjoys attention. (Apparently, he received a few presents at Christmas from former guests.)
Since we had to take a very early train back to London we didn't have breakfast at the hotel. Overall, I think the hotel's location and price are a good value.
Have a wonderful time in Paris with your granddaughter.

Ira,
Napoleon is a tan/black tigerstripe tabby with quite a regal presence. He's probably less than a year and still retains those awkward kitten moves.
I can see why you like this hotel so much. It has a very comfortable feeling about it. I would think if they redid the decor/fittings they could charge double the amount.
Between Napoleon, the price, and Pierre Herme, I may never get my husband back to the Artus, our usual home in Paris!

you might want to post your opinion on the Bonaparte, including the owner's comments about the long absence of the Portuguese desk clerk, at trip advisor, if not now then when you return from your next trip.
Certainly based on your recommendation and the many others, the hotel remains on my own list.
