Paris hotel and neighborhood help
 

Two adults and two teenagers will travel to Paris for a week long trip in the Spring. Trying to select a quad bed hotel in preferably the 6th and for us to be centrally located. Will only rent a room if it has beds- no sofa sleeping. Our price range for 7 nights is around 2000€. I don't want to rent an apartment this trip.

This is the first time we've been to Paris as a family so are experiencing it with new eyes.

I've searched and looked on sites like Booking dot com etc. and came up with the following hotels and would appreciate advice on if these are in decent locations with cafes, shops and other things to do in the immediate area. (I've checked them out on Google street view.). And how are the hotels themselves if you have experience with them? Have read Guenmais(?) post on left bank hotels.

We are coming from Orly and I see which metro lines are most convenient.

2. Les Fontaines du Luxembourg
4 rue de Vaugirard

3. Hotel du Cadran
10 rue Du Champ de Mars
Located in the 7th and close to Rue Cler but that's about it. A 20 min. Walk to Eiffel Tower.
2 twin beds/1 Queen

4. Hotel Marronnieres
Rue Jacob
Quickly read that this is a nice street.

My BIL always stays at Les Marrionersand likes it a lot.

Scratch that off the list, I just received an email that the Marronnieres is not available.

Oops, the quad is not available. Could do a triple with an extra bed.

Any hotel in central Paris will be around cafes and shops, all of those are. Not sure what you mean by "other things to do", though. I would think you'd be doing your sightseeing throughout Paris during your visit, not just staying around your hotel. What are you looking for that you wish to do around your hotel? If you are looking for a tourist attraction right around your hotel, I guess you would have to pick the ones near the Seine, which would only rule out the Cadran. But some people prefer to be away from tourist attractions for their accommodations. But if you are leery of using public transportation, and that's the reason, choose the Belloy since Marroniers is out. That's a very central location, you won't be sorry. And your teens will probably like it.

I haven't stayed in any of those hotels but think I've read comments on here about people liking the Belloy and Cadran. You can read those on websites, though, like tripadvisor.

I do have another suggestion as I have stayed in this hotel and really liked it, it is very near your others, just off bd St Michel in the 6th (and close to Luxembourg RER stop you can go direct to CDG airport from there, if you wish) http://www.hoteltrianonrivegauche.co...ive-gauche.php

They have two connecting rooms, one with a double and the other with 2 twins, perfect for you, and the rate is less than 300 euro a night in Spring.

One of our favorites in the 6th is Hotel de Fleurie . . they have "family rooms", of two and three rooms connected

Most hotels will not give you an extra bed with a room for a triple to make it a quad.. so do check carefully .

All those hotels are in great areas.. its the 6th.. there basically is no bad area there..

I would never bother paying a higher rate for a room for an included breakfast.. the breakfast is usually a hot drink , maybe a juice, and a bun , pastry , some bread and jam.. maybe some cheese ..

I second the Hotel Fleurie suggestion. The street is quiet, nice hotel and very good location. I also agree with skipping an upcharge for the hotel breakfast...I would rather visit a cafe or make breakfast a pain au chocolat at a bakery. I say sample a new bakery everyday and find the best pain au chocolat in the area. In that area, Gerard Mulot has wonderful pastries.

I'm pretty sure we'll stay at the Hotel du Cadran in the 7th by the Rue Cler. I've looked and looked and then some more for something closer to the 6th but will have to compromise this time. But, it is one hotel with a family room consisting of two connecting rooms (2 bathrooms, 2 tvs, a queen and two twin beds- more space for four and larger beds than some hotels on Rue Jacob). We are a family on the go but also like space in the room. And the hotel has consistent reviews, cancellation and payment at the hotel. Hey, maybe I'll run into Rick Steves there! �� Most important is the budget- around 1900€ for the week. It was a few days back that I looked at your suggestions. The Fleurie was closer to 3000€ so way out of budget. I can't remember about the others at this moment.

I'm pretty sure we'll stay at the Hotel du Cadran. I've looked high and low and this one fits the bill for budget and offering. A family room consists of two connecting rooms which have larger beds, a queen bed and then two twins, two bathrooms and two tvs, incl. breakfast for 1900€ for the week. The Fleurie was closer to 3000€. It will be a compromise to location being in the 7th but feels better for me to have a consistently rated hotel in budget and room for the four of us.

I think you habe made a good choice, two bathrooms is important when you are trying to get out the door in the morning.

I've stayed at the Cadran a few times. It's certainly ok, maybe better than ok, none of the rooms are what you'd call spacious, but it's pleasant, with nice staff. Be advised, the beds are firm. For me, it was fine, some might find them too firm.

FWIW, we just got back last night from five days in Paris and stayed at the Bourdonnais, not far from the Cadran. It too was fine -- we stayed there to see what it was like as a boutique four-star hotel. We had stayed there in 1994 on our first trip to Paris as a married couple and back then it was a simple 3-star hotel. Very helpful and welcoming staff and very comfortable beds -- firm, but not as firm as at the Cadran. There were a few things at the renovated Bourdonnais we thought still needed improving; we passed those suggestions on to the staff and they were very receptive. The special rates we were offered directly by the hotel were very competitive (200 euro per night for a junior suite, with wifi and breakfast included), so you might want to see what they could offer you.

I see you've already made a decision, but wanted to chime in for others that might read this thread in the future. I've stayed at Fontaines du Luxembourg twice now and I like it very much. Staff has always been incredibly friendly and helpful (e.g., checked me into my room at 9AM after an overnight flight, gave us a demi bottle of red wine at no charge--possibly a mistake?). The rooms are nice, and even if small my bathrooms have both been large. I've never had the breakfast, but there is a small cafe just at the end of the block, convenience store across the street, and many other stores/cafes very close. Also, easy to access from RER from CDG which saves a little $$$. Have a great trip!

Hi WeissrTee, I checked on your hotel using booking dot com and the rates were considerably higher than the Cadran for our family. I inquired no further because it said animals are allowed which put me off directly due to allergies. Thanks anyway for the tip!

Sidny, oh, I think I x'd that one now because a few reviews mentioned the smell of musty or mold in their rooms. I'm happy you had a good experience with the hotel and thank you for your tip!

The rates we found on booking.com (and other websites) were higher than the rates we were offered by the hotel when we contacted them directly.

We didn't notice a musty or mouldy smell anywhere in the hotel, in our room or any of the reception rooms, so I found that surprising. Everything smelled clean and fresh. Are you sure those reviews were written after the hotel remodeling was completed? OTOH, I'm glad to know pets are accepted, we liked traveling with our dog whenever possible :-)

I'm sure you will enjoy the Cadran. It's too bad that with their own remodeling, they no longer have the cozy lounge with fireplace. It was nice to sit by the fire with a drink on chilly evenings.

I just booked the Adagio Paris Eiffel Tower for the trip with my wife. I must admit that I have never stayed there, but reviews on TripAdvisor are great and also some fellow Fodor members recommended staying there.

They also have bigger apartments which seem to fit to families. It's located in the 15th district close to the Eiffel Tower!

WeisserT- that wasn't your hotel with the reviews of a musty odor but another poster's (Sidny) hotel.

But I wonder if the fireplace area you mention at the Cadran was made into a chocolate boutique they picture on their website? I would have opted for the cozy area but surely my children will be drilling for the treats. ��
