Paris-Hotel and Gare de Lyon
 

I'm trying to choose a hotel in Paris, and need some assistance. We are in Paris for 3 days, then head to Provence for three days, then back to Paris for one day/night. Should our hotel be in the vicinity of the Gare de Lyon (for TGV)? If so, where is it? I can't find it on my map.

If you care to offer suggestions, also, here are my requests (not requirements):
--price under 150E.
--cozy neighborhood (not shopping districts, but cafes and bookstores), if possible.
--elevator
--bathroom in room
--quiet room (last time I was in Paris I was up ALL night from hammering)

Topping this for you. Cannot really help with hotels since the one I have used in the Marais costs considerably more than your stated budget but am sure others will have plenty of recommendations.

Yes, I KNOW that some will say "How could you even CONSIDER a Holiday Inn?!" But the truth is that in Europe's urban centers, you can often find hotels with chain affiliations that are any but a cookie-cutter type of situation. They're also easy to book, so give it a look.

Gare de Lyon is in the lower-right corner of map reference E4. See that red line it's on? That's the commuter train RER A that runs east-west all across Paris. Now see Charles de Gaulle-&Eacute;toile at C3? GdL TGV station is four minutes from there - so it doesn't matter where you stay.

not sure about the quiet room but Hotel Delavigne is in the 6th where there are beaucoup cafes/shops, has doubles for 130&euro;...Metro line 4 to Chatelet and change to line 1 for Gare de Lyon.

The Metro and bus systems in Paris are so good, that you should choose your hotel by price, ambience and location, not whether it is close to a railway station.

Check out the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the 5th: www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75005ecoles2.htm. It's not adjacent to the Gare de Lyon, but otherwise meets your criteria. It is built back from the street around a courtyard; ask for a room in the back. We heard not a peep all night til we were awoken by the twittering of birds in the garden.

And I agree; take the metro.

Thank you for your help. I'm addicted to the research, but have finally narrowed it down to three hotels. Does anyone have any knowledge on the following? I've searched for them on this site and www.tripadvisor.com, and found positive feedback. All have what we need, it's just a matter of choosing now. Any comments on the neighborhoods, etc.?
1) Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais
2) Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain
3) Hotel Lenox Montparnasse
