Paris Hotel Advice
 

Hi, We are planning our first trip to Paris. We are looking for something under 150 euro per night, close to transportation,cafes and restaurants. Small rooms are fine just clean and friendly staff. Does anyone have any experience with these hotels?

I always use Trip Advisor to decide on a hotel. Read a lot of the reviews for each hotel and decide if you can deal with whatever the down sides are, if any. Usually Rick Steves' recommendations are also reliable.

No personal experience but the College de France and Familia are often well spoken of both here and at TripAdvisor..

Looked at all of those when planning our trip but settled on Hotel Clement, often mentioned on this forum and favorably reviewed on TA and other reviews. Meets all your specs and worth checking out. We loved it and the friendly staff; location was excellent!

My brother and sister in law stayed at Hotel L'Esperance .The sourh east area of Paris .It was around 100Euros per night and they really enjoyed it .It was near a tube station and there were nice restaurants near by.Good luck with your search

Thank you, Guenmai, for that thread. It was your earlier posts and that thread that led me to Hotel Clement which worked out fine for us. Appreciate your knowledge of Paris and your sharing, always in a gracious manner.

When in Paris we usually rent an apartment but two years' ago we stayed at the Familia. The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. The bathroom is modern and very nice. We knew the room would be small but it was extremely small. We did not like the breakfast room as it is right in the lobby and you almost have to climb over people to get to your seat. If you stay there get a room with a balcony. We used it a lot and with the doors open it seemed to make the space larger. The price was right and if only for 2 or 3 nights we might stay there again.

Inn very nice for price and perfectly located also for me.

Have you thought about renting a flat? Go to VRBO and search in Paris for some really first class places to stay and some are very reasonable.

Like everyone else has already mentioned, I just go on Tripadvisor .com. It's has a complied list of all the hotels and bed n breakfasts in Paris that thousands of travellers have ranked and commented on. The website has then ranked all of the hotels in that area from #1 to #whatever.

You can limit the search function using the maximum price you want to pay and then just go and choose the highest ranked hotels that are in the districts you like or have the amenities you require. Read the comments adn look at the photos other people have posted and you should be go to go.

We stayed at the Hotel Familia summer of 2011 for 4 nights. Agree with Micheline about the small rooms etc., but still enjoyed it. Location close to the Seine and an easy walk to Notre Dame . Hotel Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely consider another stay at this hotel. Delightful paintings on walls of room--we had a balcony room with a great view too.

Haven't stayed at any of those, but we love hotel le Walt near rue cler. It's about a 10 Min from the eiffel tower.

The Familia and Minerve are righr next to each other on rue des ecoles, in fact owned by the same people. We've atayed at the Familia twice and staying again next month. Lots of cafes nearby, services 2 metros, bank and numerous bus lines.The rooms are smallish but most have a balcony that you can open but not walk out onto. The wifi is free and the staff are pleasant.Location can't be beat.

We stay there when waiting to get into our apt in the Marais. It' s a 1 bedroom and is 165 US dollars a night thru Vacation in Paris . A bit less expensive than 150 Euro you might look into that if you are staying for a week or more

I don't remember what floor we were on but the balcony had a table and two chairs. A

There are opinions, by Fodorites, of the first two hotels on your list. The opinions are on my hotel thread. I haven't stayed at those two, but last spring my Parisian friend and I walked past them, one night, on our way to the bus stop. They're next to each other. Happy Travels!
