Paris Hotel
 

I'm sending my 17 y/o daughter and 60(ish) my mom to meet my father in Paris in late June. He will be there on business, and so the ladies will be exploring on their own during the day. I'm looking for a more "American" style hotel that is centrally located but not insanely expensive. Not sure if Marriotts, Hiltons etc are a good bet or if they are just grossly over priced becusae of the familiarity of their names. Thanks!

Perhaps you should state your requirements rather than "American" style hotel. That could mean anything. Do you want a gym, restaurant, room service, laundry service, air conditioning?

The Hotel Intercontinental (Le Grand) near the Opera Garnier is very nice and definitely caters to American visitors. The Westin right off Place de la Concorde is also great and well located.

By American I suppose I am most concerned about space...having travelled Europe quite a bit (for business, never in Paris) I know rooms with two queen beds are rare. I'd also like a place with a restaurant, and wifi.

Hotels aren't overpriced in Paris due to those names, that's for sure. They may be overpriced or not for other reasons, but I don't think that is it as lots of other names might be superior that are French chains (eg, Sofitel).

If you want an American hotel you do have only a few choices in Paris as whatever the name, it will likely be staffed and run by French people, and many American chains are just marketing tools and the hotel is local, but it seems you understand that. I do think the ones you named are likely to be the most American, though, good choice on that one (rather than any Holiday Inn or Best Western which will be local hotels). YOu might try the Crowne Plaza over at Republique square which used to be a Holiday Inn (but a real nice one, it was aregistered historic monument). It's probably not as American as the Marriott, though.

Do you really just want a business hotel? Sofitel is very nice, and of course you have lots of other choices in Paris that are French chains.

oh, sorry I didn't see your explanation. Well, tons of hotels have wifi and restaurants (most 4* hotels have restaurants). I don't think i9t's an American issue but the large business hotels would be more likely to have the kind of rooms you want, I know Meridien and that Crowne Plaza do.
