Paris hotel
 

Has anybody any information regarding the following hotels : A la Villa des Artistes, Hotel de l'Odeon, Hotel Saint Paul and Dauphine St Germain ? My family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers are looking for a roomy hotel/apartment for 4 nights next June. We'd like to be in a convenient location to walk/ride metro or bus to sites , including the Louvre, etc. Our budget is to stay under $250-300 a night. Would one of these places fit the bill ? The Dauphine is advertising 197 Euro a night for Junior Suite. This sounds very resonable after comparing what else is available in that price range.

Not familiar with the Dauphine. Is the junior suite suitable for 4? Frequently when they say junior its just a small area with a loveseat - and the room still sleeps only 2.

Our family of 4 (kids 12 & 10) rented an apartment (#7) from RentParis last month. Check out www.rentparis.com. This was my 1st apartment rental and from now on, apartment would be my preference over hotel rooms, more $$/sq. ft.

Do a search on this forum for Paris apartment and you'll find many suggestions, including ParisPerfect which is a little more expensive.

I stayed at the Dauphine six years ago. It was a nice hotel, very centrally located, with a lovely decor and very good service. The metro station is two blocks from the hotel, it's walking distance of Notre Dame, Pont Neuf is right at the end of Rue Dauphine, and you can cross it to the Louvre. There's plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. Location is really very convenient. As far as location goes, only Hotel Odeon's is as central as Dauphine's.

From what I see on the Dauphine's web site, it was refurbished recently, or at least it was after my stay.

I've seen a couple of rooms when I was there (mine was a single). One of them was of a very large size, mostly considering the 3 stars' hotel rooms in the 6th. I guess 197 Euro for their jr suite is a very good deal.

I know the Hotel Saint Paul, I think they are OK for the price you want to pay..?maybe check it on their website:www.h-saintpaul.com!!!This hotel is marvellous for the location...in the Latin quarter, one the best are of Paris!!!

With teenagers, consider 2 rooms rather then a suite. 2 Bathrooms really helps mornings move more quickly. I think you can find 2 doubles in Paris for under $300 fairly easily.

I agree on the 2 rooms. The Muguet would be easily in that price range. And many of the hotels people recommend in the 6th would be also.

we took our two teens to Paris last summer and stayed at the claude bernard in the latin quarter. its right on rue des ecoles. there are two or three metro stops within a block or two; pantheon, sorbonne, two blocks off the seine, easy walking distance almost anywhere you want to go (Paris is not a hard city to navigate at all). we had a family/quad room with two double beds, a single bed and day bed. only drawback with this kind of arrangement is one bathroom. the place has a/c and an elevator. nice enough breakfast room; very attentive service. Its not the high end like Prince DeGaulles, but very adequate.

Thank you for your feedback- I am always in a quandry whether to stay in a hotel versus an apartment. Having a kitchentte and a little extra space is a priceless luxury when there are four of us travelling. Has anybody stayed at the Residence des Arts in the Latin Quarter ? It sounds so ideal, if it weren't so expensive . Two rooms might end up cost almost as much. Would it be worth it ?

Two rooms would definitely be worth it. I just returned from a trip with my daughters, 21 and 17. First of all you have the advantage of two bathrooms (maybe it's not as bad if your kids are boys). Secondly, teenagers and their parents need to get away from each other and have some of their own time. Since we spent most of the day together, it was nice to have separate rooms to have a little away time from each other. My daughters also enjoyed their time together without a parent always around.

As far as the hotels, check out the reviews on trip advisor. Hotel Saint Paul and Dauphine St Germain sound the best. Rue Dauphine is close to Rue de Buci and your teenagers would enjoy this area. There is the market, Paul's and Amorino for gelato, plus a some cool shops. Also important, at least to my kids was the internet cafe on rue St Andre des Arts. They just had to have a few minutes to e-mail friends back home and I used it also to confirm where we were meeting friends later in our trip.

You can probably get two rooms for around 300 euro. Other hotels to check out would be Le Regent, some of the hotels on Rue Jacob and of course Ira's favorite Bonaparte. We stayed at Hotel Saint Germain des Pres on rue Bonaparte. We loved the hotel but it is more expensive. Because we went in August, I was able to get a discount rate from them but June is considered high season. Your teenagers would also like the Latin Quarter. Check with the threads on this forum about Paris hotels, there are a lot of great suggestions.
