Paris hotel
Has anyone stayed at the Novanox Hotel in Paris in the Montparnasse area of Paris? I am concerned about both the hotel and the general area.
|
On what street is it located? The Montparnasse area is generally very nice. We stay in that area whenever we're in Paris, and my friend has lived in the area for over 20 years.

I know where it is, it's on bd Montparnasse, just a little east of bd Raspail. The area is fine, convenient to public transportation and lots of restaurants and cafes and stores. What exactly are you worried about, and why? I haven't been in that hotel but I think it's supposed to be an okay mid-level choice, I've seen it recommended in several places.

Shannon and Christina: Thanks for making me feel better about the Novanox and its location. I had asked for the St. Germain area and this is where my AAA agent and Travel Bound put us. We will be there for 7 nights and I just wanted a convenient, charming location.

Sandy<BR>"they" "put" you somewhere?<BR>If it's not what you want, then tell them to change it, or find out what your other options are, I don't know what Travel Bound is.<BR>The Montparnasse area is ok, but it's not the same as St Germain, and in my opinion loses points in the charm department when compared to the 5th or 6th arrondissement. I'm not saying you'll be unhappy there, but if it's not what you really want...

No, that isn't St-Germain. It's certainly a fairly convenient area, though. I don't know about charming -- it's a main street and I don't usually think of them as charming, anyway. But, there are many parts of St Germain and the 5th arr. that I don't think are charming at all, either--some much worse than that area. It depends what you're looking for, hard to say. The address is the 6th arr so that's probably why they thought it was St-Germain, but it's really right on the border and I don't think people think of it as St-Germain. That hotel is supposed to be an interesting contemporary hotel but with some style, from what I've read. It's on plenty of web sites where you can see it, like www.webscapades.com. I would prefer the location of the Novanox to where a lot of hotels in the 5th are, myself, and I do prefer that area because it's less crowded and touristy than the main parts of St-Germain.

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me your assessment of the Novanox and its environs. I feel much more relaxed about the location. Will be in Paris for 7 nights so wanted something comfortable. Maybe not too quiet though. Thanks again!

Sandy, I too, will be staying near Montparnasse when I go to Paris next week, and also wondered about the general area. I wanted to stay more in the St. Germain area, but everything seemed to be booked by the time I decided to go. I have since heard that Montparnasse is quite nice, with loads of "authentic" French restaurants, convenient, and not as crowded with tourists as St. Germain and the Latin Quarter areas. My hotel is on rue Vaugirard near Montparnasse Blvd. Let's hope we like it! Anyway, the Metro is great and will get you anywhere, easily.<BR>Having a nice clean hotel room to sleep in after walking the streets of Paris for hours will be the important thing.
