Paris hotel - no musty odors or mold?
I have a good friend going to Paris for the first time in may 2005. She is very allergic to mold and musty type odors. Can you recommend a hotel near St Germain that would most likely work for her?

What makes you think, particularly with that budget, that there would be a problem with mold and mustiness in Paris at a hotel in the St-Germain area - or any other, for that matter?
There are probably a couple hundred hotels that would suit her. Do you have more particulars?

We loved Hotel St. Germain in the 6th, 88 Rue de Bac. It's in her range, very quaint and clean and a perfect location. But I also agree that there's no way to know if a low or high dollar hotel will be dust or mold free...highly unlikely.

One of my favorite hotels is the D'Aubusson in the 6th district. Their rates are well up there, but I think may still fit into the budget.
It is a four-star hotel, which means it has all usual amenities, and some luxurious touches here and there to boot. Le Regent, on the same street (rue Dauphine) is usually very much praised as well.

We love the Hotel des Saints-Peres in the 6th. For the budget stated, your friend could get a good sized double. The hotel is charming and friendly with spacious rooms and large tiled baths. You can view the hotel at www.esprit-de-france.com.

El Hotel Central St Germain would be perfect...she even would pay less than that...Give her the website: www.centralstgermain.com!!!

As a *very* general rule, I find the newer/newly renovated hotels in Paris are more likely to less moldy, musty, etc. One of the newer hotels in the 6th is the Hotel Luxembourg Parc, directly across from the Luxembourg Gardens. I was by there several times during the building's renovations, which were done to a high standard, and stopped in to check it out after the opening. Seemed very clean and fresh to me.
When I checked out the Hotel Danube for a friend (a popular hotel in the 6th), the room I looked at did have some mold and seemed musty. Not all rooms may be like that, but I wouldn't put that hotel at the top of the list.
