Paris Honeymoon-between three hotels, help!
 

We are honeymooning in Paris and Provence in mid-October. After all our research we are down to three hotels in St Germain the Au Manior, Hotel de L'Abbaye and Hotel De Buci. We leaning toward a king room in Au Manior for about a $210 a night. Any final words on this hotel or the others given our price range. We want the most wonderful and authentic Parisan experience we can get for the money. Much Thanks Will and Lisa

The only way to go is the Ritz....

I wish we could afford the Ritz. To others I am looking for informed, passionate and helpful advice given my question. The last reply wasn't so.

Hi Lisa,<BR><BR>I've been to Paris numerous times (it's my absolute favorite city!), but I'm not familiar with the hotels you listed.<BR><BR>However, if it interests you at all, one thing I would suggest is an evening stroll along the Seine River. It's incredibly beautiful and romantic and hopefully will forever etch an image of your honeymoon in your heart. :-)<BR><BR>Jennifer

My vote is for L'Abbaye. We stayed there for 4 nights in September, 2001. It is a quiet street, the front entry is elegant and the staff is wonderful. No request is too small. We had one of the suite on the top floor that had a French doors that opened onto a little terrace overlooking their garden. We couldn't use it b/c it rained every darn day while we were there, but it was lovely to look at. The atmosphere is charming, cozy, romantic with an elegant flair.

I vote for either Au Manoir St. Germain or de l'Abbaye. No, I haven't stayed at either hotel but have admired both of them. We couldn't get reservations for de l'Abbaye although they put us on a waiting list. I hear the regular rooms are a bit small unless you get a room w/terrace as mentioned. And based on their correspondences, they have great service.<BR><BR>I've heard very positive things about Au Manoir St. Germain as well. The rooms are very spacious and I believe they include b'fast.<BR><BR>In short, you can't lose on either choice. I think Hotel de Buci has very tiny rooms.

I too have stayed at l'Abbaye and will stay there again when I get back to Paris. It's a very nice hotel, with good rooms and a good staff, and (for me at least) a great location. If you stay there, be sure to ask the staff for advice on everything from restaurants to sights; they are helpful and gave us some great suggestions for lesser-known restaurants that turned out to be the best.

Dear Lisa;<BR>I stayed at the hotel Buci and liked alot; I loved the location and the staff. My room was not tiny ; but I have not stayed at the other hotels on your list. I will say my room was a good size and decorated beautifully.<BR> I have been to Paris many times; and have even stayed at the Ritz which I think is the most over rated hotel I've ever stayed at. <BR>I never expect a huge or even large room in Paris.I can tell you the best hotel I have ever stayed at in Paris is the Lancaster in the 8th bar none.<BR>It might be worth checking into; although it is quite costly.www.parisby.com Karen brown also has some nice choices.<BR>I wish you much love and happiness in your marriage<BR>Sherri

I wouldn't call the rooms at Au Manoir SGdP large, but we enjoyed our stay there. l'Abbaye is in a less active area, as I believe the de Buci to be. Au Manoir is in the heart of St Germain at Rue de Rennes, next to Brassiere Lipp, across SG from Le Deux Magots. <BR>The area is loud, active, and wonderful.<BR>Our deluxe room was small, quaint, and clean. The bathroom was spotless and decent sized. Breakfast was included in our rate (around 1000 FF/nt in 2000).<BR>Have a great trip,<BR>j.

Lisa you can't handle the truth then do not ask....but then again I do not imagine that YOU are the type that would stay at the Ritz anyway.....

Thanks for the wonderful replys. I just want to clarify I was not included in any of the later conversation regarding the Ritz. I only thought that the suggestion in the first reply was a bit off base and didn't answer my question. I feel bad my question started some of the terrible dicussion at the end of this chain. Lisa, I would lean toward L'Abbaye. The location of the Hotel de Buci is wonderful but the rooms are a little claustrophobic. I much prefer the Buci Latin (now called Hotel Artus). You might also look into the D'Aubusson, which is nearby and has lovely rooms. I think you'll have the wonderful and authentic Parisian experience you are looking for if you stay on the Left Bank as you have indicated. Enjoy your trip and congratulations!
