Paris Honeymoon
 

We are going to Paris for our Honeymoon (Feb 24- Mar 3). I speak moderate french and we have prepared for this as best we can. I would love any information about quiet or "not so touristy" places to eat or visit. We are willing to pay for good food, bt really want to avoid the extravagence (ie the famed $800 meals that are often rumored). Appreciate your assistance in advance,<BR><BR>Jen

Armand au Palais Royale, on Rue de Beaujolais at the north side of the Palais Royale, is a very quiet local place. Another favorite of ours is Le Grand Colbert, a couple of blocks north on Rue Vivienne. But for a truly parisian experience, try the Brasserie Le Vaudville. <BR><BR>

Try Le Bristol in the 8th. It is not cheap but nowhere near $800. We were there 3 weeks ago and had the tasting menu. The bill came to $238 for 2. We lost count of the courses but the food was superb. Service was excellent. Also try Sebillon in the 8th. While not as quiet as Le Bristol, the food is very good with roast leg of lamb carved tableside as the house specialty. Both restaurants seemed to draw locals. Have a wonderful time!<BR><BR>Sharon

Congrats on your upcoming wedding Jennifer. The last time my husband and I were in Paris, we went to a restaurant called La Truffiere and it was outstanding. The service is impeccable and the food marvelous. It's also very intimate and frequented by locals. You can look them up on their website to see if it's what you're looking for at www.latruffiere.com. Either way, enjoy wherever you end up going.

You can eat in a nice "local" resturant and have a very good meal for $30 each. Then add another $15 for wine. One good way to find a place is to ask your hotel or someone else staying at the hotel. We got our best meal after being told about the resturant from another american at our hotel.

My wife and my favorite restaurant in Paris is Au Pressoir in the 12th. It is off the beaten tourist path (a French friend took us there the first time)but very romantic. Danielle Seguin will greet and seat you and her husband, Henri, will prepare one of the best meals you have ever enjoyed. It isn't cheap, but the $150 or you spend will be well worth it.
