Paris holiday decorations
Will be in Paris for one week starting 11/27. Will Christmas decorations be up? Does the city decorate on the scale of NY or Chicago?
|
Not sure when they start to go up but in Paris last year the decorations were mainly lights. Different streets had hanging lights across them, some with eiffle towers, some with packages, some with snowflakes, etc. very pretty and fun to walk around finding them.

Also outside Gallaries Layfette they had strung these same types of lights across the blvd. and had decorated the trees- all red lights with red packages, very pretty. Other squares had put up lights. We didn't see the big decorations involving santa, etc. as they don't really go for that. But it was very pretty and the chocolate shops, patisseries, etc. had great window displays.

Wendy

The Christmas street lights should be up by then for the most part -- probably all by the end of your stay. The Champs-Elysees, rue Royale and ave Montaigne may be up a little earlier than some others, but most all street lights should be up by last weekend in November (11/29 or so)/beg. of December. The big dept. stores have Christmas window decorations up earlier in November.

The Christmas decorations always seem to go up for 1 December. It is true that they are mainly lights - no gaudy decorations here! The shops are beautifully decorated too.

I was in Paris the day after Halloween last year and the windows of the big department stores were already in full holiday splendor!

They were up last Thanksgiving in Paris - lights everywhere and the beginnings of the store displays in the big department stores. It's mostly lights, as others have noted, but still it lends a very festive atmosphere to Paris.
