Paris Hideaways apt in the Marais - opinions please
My mom and I will be visiting Paris at the very beginning of November. We have our flights, now we just need to book an apartment or hotel. Right now, I'm currently looking at this apartment offered through Paris Hideaways:
http://tinyurl.com/3a5fed Based on the guest book and map, it looks like it's on/near Rue des Rosiers. What are your opinions? It's in our price range and I like the idea of having a kitchen, that there's a separate bedroom and a couch (that also folds out in case my mom would rather sleep there), and that it's not located on a top floor without an elevator. I picture the Marais area to be an old, charming area filled with small cafes and shops. Does anyone know if the area near this apartment fits that description? I'm also concerned about noise levels late at night, safety, and that it's in a convenient location. Thanks. |
My only comment on the apartment is the fact that it is a "second floor walk up". That would be on the third (American) floor, with no elevator. Could be a problem with your Mom, perhaps, after a long day walking in Paris.
The apartment looks nice, the location is central, and the price seems right. Have a wonderful stay in Paris. :-) |
The location is fine, the price is decent, it looks bright, 2 floors up wouldn't bother me (and I'm no spring chicken)
For two people though, it would not be my choice. the only real seating is also the second bed. So the sofa sleeper would have to be closed up all the time if anyone wanted to sit up. Only other seating are the wooden stools (one photo shows wooden chairs at the desk, but another shows stools in the same place) |
Thank you for your inputs. They are greatly appreciated.

This appears to be close to where we stayed last April. The location is great. We were on the 3rd floor just off of Rue St Martin- it was very quiet at night. I felt very safe in Marais. There is much to do- enjoy.

Yes, is it's right on rue des Rosiers. Yes, an excellent location. I stayed on 32 rue Vieille du Temple, which you can see marked on the map. Lots of cafes, bistros, bars. Great restaurants too! My apartment was on the 3rd floor (American 4th) with no elevator and I had no problems giong up/down every day.

Hi Bailey:
How fun you're going to Paris with your Mom! You will enjoy the Marais, Rue des Rosiers is one of the busiest streets. There are lots of galleries and good restaurants in the area. Personally, being 70, I would not want to walk up three flights of stairs, but your Mom might not object. How was the Lisbon Dining Club meeting in New York? Nancy |
I just looked up my favorite apartment rental company: Vacation in Paris, and they had this great place in the Marais:
http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_57.html It might not fit your budget, but I know the area and love the market right near there. Nancy |
Sorry, for some reason that
link doesn't seem to work. Go to their website, then go to One bedroom apartments. The one I liked is: Square du Temple Loft One Bedroom ID #57 |
About a day or so ago, I went ahead and booked the Rue des Rosiers apartment. So far, I've been very happy with my interactions with Paris Hideaways and the apartment owner - both are very prompt and friendly. Thank you all for your opinions.
Nancy - that apartment looks fabulous, I'll bookmark it for next time. With your familiarity with the Marais, please let me know if you have any restaurant, etc recommendations or any tips for us. It's been 10 years since my first trip to Paris and my Mom has never been, so we'd appreciate any tips. BTW, the NYC LDC was very nice. We were very fortunate to meet up again with Lobo, Loba, Matt, and Lizzy and to meet other fodorites. |
Bailey: Look at my report called A Month in Paris: Just-the-Essentials-Trip-Report. Lots of good resturants there and our favorite sights. Many of the resturants I've listed in the 11th are not that far from where you'll be. Do try and see something at the Opera Garnier, it's just fabulous. And don't miss the Quai Branley museum, it's superb. Monicapileggi recently posted some restaurant recommedations that you should look at too.

Yes, as Nancy stated, I did write my list of Paris restaurants. Here's the link http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35003826
Right on rue des Rosiers is L'as du Fallafel and Chez Marianne; up the street on Vieille du Temple is Robert et Louise and just east near the Place des Vosges (15 minute walk) are two other very good restaurants (Chez Janou and Bistrot de l’Oulette (fabulous cassoulet!). Monica ((F)) |
How did your experience go with Paris Hideaways? I'm planning a trip for May and looking at their properties.
|
Monicapileggi, could you send me a link to your apartment on Rue Vieille du Temple? Thanks.
