Paris hair salon recommendation
 

Hello Fodorites--

Can you recommend a hair salon in Paris where I can get a well-styled haircut in the $50-$70USD range?

After eight trips to Paris, we treat ourselves to haircuts and eyeglass frames as mementos. More practical than Eiffel Tower sno-globes and less expensive than Hermes.

I think there are some past threads on this topic. I know I had a good haircut in the 7th at a place called Laurent. If you can find the thread (try my name, I guess, but I do a lot of posting) you can find the name of the hairdresser I saw. But I'm almost sure there are more recent recommendations. good luck.

Hi Julie - When I stayed at Hotel Duquesne, cnr. Ave. Duquesne & Ave.Lowendal, we often walked past a very nice hair salon on our way to Ecole Militaire Metro stop on Ave.De La Motte Picquet.
You will find the salon - also on a corner somewhere along that route.
My friend went in and enquired about getting a blow-dry ( she had shoulder length hair) and they quoted around 100euros.
Wish I could help more but you may have to chance it at a salon further out in the double digit arr. for cheaper prices.

My daughter and I had very good haircuts at a place called ( I think) MARION GRAY on rue Andres des Artes in the 6th.

Go to the AOL Paris board and ask your question. There are several people who post there who have regular hair salon appointments in Paris.

Thanks for the recommendations. On previous visits to Paris, I went to a salon in the 7th (Carre Noir on Ave. Tourville) but the stylist I preferred has relocated to the UK.

I did find some older threads here, but no one made a specific salon recommendation. I will check out the AOL message board as well!

Thanks for giving me a couple of options to consider.

I find very difficult to have a good haircut for that price here were I live(not to say impossible) ...and this is not Paris but Castellon (Spain) so...I wouldn't hope to find it in Paris.

Here is a link from reviews I gave on another site. Salons are Marianne Gray and Franck Provost. MG is much more upscale and I wish I could go there every 6 weeks. FP is a chain/franchise, but they had good standards and it felt great treating myself. Good luck & have fun.

I'm also interested in a haircut in Paris, but am wondering if I need to speak French beyond Bonjour and Merci? I've had terrible haircuts since we moved to Europe and would love a nice one, but want to be able to communicate. Thanks for any tips!

The name of a salon is not that helpful if you as the tourist are given the apprentice, or the stylist who is not busy because they suck,, LOL
Perosnally , unless you speak french I would hesitate,, I mean , most bad hair experiences here happen because of miscommunication and thats when there is no language barrier.

That said , you may hit it lucky,, you said you have done this for your last 8 trips, why not go back to one of those places?

PS 50 us dollar is what, about 30 euros,, not very much for a cut and blow dry.

I like the eyeglass frame idea, I may try that myself one day!
