I agree with the DK guidebooks but they weigh a TON and are really heavy to carry around. We bring them just for reference in the hotel.

Both the Eyewitness and Time Out guides look interesting, but both are quite bulky-- 448p and 416p respectively.
Has anyone tried Time Out's "Paris for Visitors"?

The latest edition (still available on Amazon) of Access Paris was published in 2004. Next edition is due out November 2006. There are so many shops and restaurants included, if the occasional one is no longer there...And, as someone else mentioned, every tour guide is out of date as soon as published - shops and restaurants change all the time.

I appreciate being able to buy "used" (but actually new) books on Amazon, so I can freely highlight, tear out sections.

For something less weighty and full of useful information, check out the Michelin Green guide to Paris.

I just walked over to my bookshelf and picked up my older TimeOut Paris and Eyewitness Paris. Both are rather heavy, but Eyewitness is about an inch taller and seems to weigh a decent amount more. TimeOut is also denser with info with less full page pictures.

Good to hear Access is still being published. They're very handy for neighborhood hopping, but are very shallow in details.
