Paris GTG March 2010 ?
I'll be in Paris the second week of March. Post here if you'd be interested in a GTG. If we can reach critical mass (by which I mean more than two people) I'll post an email address for arranging details off-line.
|
Topping, and some detail about me in case you've never participated in a Fodor's GTG and have doubts.
I've been posting here at Fodors for years (so just click on my name if you want to know how long), and have participated in GTGs in Paris (my first, about six years ago, at Le Train Bleu), Rome (hmm, two years ago?), and London (last spring). I've met some very nice people along the way, and the planning part is always fun. |
Hi Therese-I am just finalizing some last minute travel plans right now, but it looks like we'll be in Paris from the 1st through the 16th. We participated in a GTG a few years back in Lisbon and it was a wonderful experience.
We rent an apartment in the Marais near Places des Vosges, but willing to meet up anywhere. Hopefully our schedules can coordinate! |
Sounds like my trip will overlap yours entirely. This is a last minute-ish trip for me as well, so I'm just now getting my ducks in a row.
Your mention of Lisbon reminds that I also got together with Fodorites there: Lobo, Matt, and schuler et al. (the et al. being her class of adult learners of English). Dinner, fado, and all twenty-odd of us ended up back at our apartment. My email (left over from a previous round of GTG organization) is [email protected]. |
Topping again for those of you who spend more time at Fodor's on the weekends.
Suggestions for the GTG meeting place welcome. |
Hi Therese,
I arrive on March 10.....would be very interested and will keep watch to see what the plans are! |
Hi, Traviata. Assuming you'd at least consider a March 10 GTG that narrows the dates to March 10 through March 13 (as I leave on the 14th).
JenG, have your plans firmed up? And if anybody else is interested in meeting up during these dates please post here, and email me at [email protected]. |
Too bad, I don't arrive till the 14th.
|
Yes, just booked my flights. Arrive March 3 leave March 15, so the 10th through the 13th would work for me as well.
|
JenG, I took the liberty of looking back through old threads of yours and gather that you're married and have a small child. Is the husband along for this trip? The little guy? Will either or both be doing the GTG? If so we'll plan accordingly.
And sorry to hear that we don't overlap, SharonG. |
Therese, it will likely just be me for the GTG, I will be traveling with my husband and son, but don't think they'll participate. If we can get a babysitter, than my husband will be in too. I'll know more once we get there and see if a sitter we've used in the past is still around.
|
I'm sorry to not overlap too. I've been to 2 GTG in Paris and really enjoyed them. At the last one, someone gave me my first taste of a potato cooked in duck fat and I've been chasing that dream ever since.
|
SharonG, you can get your potatoes in duck fat craving satisfied here in Atlanta. Or at your own house if you care to cook a duck and save the fat.
As for the GTG, we should probably settle on a date, as my dance card is starting to fill up and once we've settled we can work around it. So, JenG and Traviata, please email me (address above) as to your availability/preference for March 10, 11, or 12. I'm booked on the 13th and will soon need to start working around whatever date we choose. Dinner probably the easiest, so we can also discuss budget, food preferences, etc. If you'd rather do something else (listen to jazz or a stand-up comedian, attend a play, whatever) that's also fine with me. Specific discussions as to date, time, and location should not be discussed on the open forum for security reasons. |
Therese, I don't live that far from Atlanta, where should I go?
|
Shaun's (near the Inman Park MARTA station) serves pinned frites made with duck fat with steak tartare as well as with a flat iron steak. And I'm pretty sure I've ordered them all by themselves at the bar.
I've gas them elsewhere in town, but don't know if they were a regular menu item. The Porter, Holeman & Finch, and l'Abattoir all good bets. |
That's pommes frites, not pinned frites. Darn iPhone autocorrect...
|
Thanks Therese. I love "pinned frites":)
|
Update:
Dinner on March 11, 2010. Head count at this point is 4 (possibly 5), so if you're interested let me know at [email protected] We've not yet booked, but I'm looking at mid-price point French restaurants in no particular arrondissement (but central, and easy metro access). Some of us may stay out later for music, etc. |
I am arriving on 3/22 - sorry I will miss you all.
If anyone is there that long please let me know, I would love a paris GTG |
