Paris get-together March 23-25?

I noticed while reading a thread about Bastille area restaurants that I will be in Paris at the same time as poster Tedgale, so I suggested we get together. He suggested I start a new thread about it, so here I am.

Is anybody interested in meeting for drinks or dinner?

I will be there March 23 (Easter Sunday) until March 30 and Nikki will be there at the START of that same period.

Oh what a stupid post, above!

I got to this post by clicking a link. Then I read Nikki's message but not her title, which is where she gave her dates.

So I posted an amplification that turns out to be TOTALLY redundant.

Paris-goers: PLEASE do not conclude that I am a clued-out nerd. I'm a smart, funny guy. Just in too much of a hurry sometimes.

Hey, Tedgale's a smart, funny guy, and I'm less clueless than he thought I was, so it's going to be a heck of a gathering.

Anybody else in? We can start talking about time and place.

I was researching Paris this morning and found a Paris thread in which a Fodorite, unknown to me, posted a query concerning Easter 2008. Her email address was included with her screen name so I emailed her and suggested she check out the thread. No reply to my email but she may pop up on this thread yet......

By the way, which Marais/ Bastille apartment did you rent? In what street? We are just a couple of blocks east of Pl. de la Bastille (r. du Fg. St. Antoine) between Bastille and Ledru-Rollin metro stops. We know the area of yore -- in '93, our next door neighbours lent us their apartment next to Ledru-Rollin metro station.

I'm staying in this apartment:
http://www.vrbo.com/24464. It's the one that Anselm Adorne stayed in and I bookmarked it from his trip report.

Hi tedgale and Nikki - We will be in Paris for a short time next month and think it would be fun to meet up! We will be in Paris for three nights (arriving the 22nd and leaving the 25th) but don't have much planned yet that is "set in stone," other than brunch on Easter Sunday at Le Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon.

Anyway the "we" in my group is my 13 year-old son and me. (My husband is saving his vacation time this year to work on the house a bit and for our big family trip to Hawaii in July!) I'm not sure if this is an adults-only invitation, if it is that's fine and I understand. But if not, we'd like to join up if it works out! The one thing I should mention though is that - like tedgale - my son is a smart, funny guy! He's very adult-like for his age, has a great sense of humor and already knows more about WWII than his mom, who was a history major! He's a little bookworm, literally does not leave the house without a book (his preference is either a history book, mostly WWII these days esp. since we'll be visiting Normandie after we leave Paris, or humor a la Woody Allen, Stephen Colbert, Bill Bryson, etc...you get the picture.) He is pretty well-travelled for a guy his age and already has lots of travel stories of his own! For starters he's been to Italy, Washington D.C., Boston and that region three times, San Fran, LA, San Diego a few times, Hawaii a few times, British Columbia, Idaho, etc etc and he will have Germany under his belt by then as well.

Anyway to summarize he's very cool, probably cooler than I am but hey! Just thought I should let you know what you're in for if you're up for having us tag along. (Me, I'm probably the clued-out nerd tedgale alluded to above.)

Either way though I just ran across a post from Nikki earlier today where she said that she stayed in a "Private Paris" apartment. Which one did you stay at!? I also have used that company two years ago this month, I stayed in the Mouffetard studio and I absolutely loved it.

Nikki: That's a great looking apartment and very close to ours. I remember it from Anselm's trip report. Would have rented it gladly had we not already found a well-reviewed one for a bargain price.

Looks like your list is growing.

RE dates: If I understand correctly, Sunday/Monday the 23rd/24th are the evenings that all respondents are available. But both fall on holidays - many places may be closed. Suggestions how to manage around that?

LunaBella, if your son doesn't mind getting together with his mom's internet buddies (my own kids, who are somewhat older, would have absolutely no interest), then bring him along, why not?

The apartment I rented from Private Paris was this one: http://www.private-paris.com/index.p...nneau&id=5 on the rue de Lanneau.

As far as things being closed, we'll just have to find something that's open. Maybe we can look at the ones suggested on the thread about restaurants near the Bastille (http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35108503), or whatever anyone else suggests.

Opinions as to whether we prefer Sunday, March 23 or Monday, March 24?

Wow, so many good restaurant suggestions on the other thread! I've been looking them over and one that AnselmeAdorne suggested really caught my eye - Le Souk - this one is going on my list of places to try, for sure! Here's their website if anybody else is interested: www.lesoukfr.com

Also I think we could probably work in either the 23rd or 24th but I think the Monday would probably be easiest for us, if it's all the same to the others and of course also dependent upon finding an open restaurant!

Hi LunaBella. My handy Time Out guide says Le Souk is closed on Mondays. Not sure about holidays, except to mention that it was closed between Christmas and New Years when we were there recently. (We dined there just before Christmas.) Guess you'd have to call to see if it's closed on Easter Sunday.

Hi Anselm - Thanks for the heads up, on both counts! I'm not sure if the group is interested in meeting there but if not, we may go there our first night in Paris. (Or next time, seems like there are always things pulling me back to Lovely Paris, the list gets longer and longer!)

Okay so back to Nikki's question regarding preferences, anybody else want to weigh in?

Monday is fine with me. Ted? Once we've agreed on a day, we can find a place that is open.

I couldn't help but eavesdrop (what is it called if you read emails from others at a website?) Your get-together sounds fun and you all sound like you know eachother well... but we're leaving Paris on 3/16 and we don't know you at all! Oh well.

Swdob, it isn't eavesdropping; we actually don't know each other at all. And anyone is welcome to join us. Sorry we'll miss you.

I am away from home for a few days. If I get a chance I will see if any of the places on the Bastille thread are open Monday, but my references are at home.

Anyone have a favorite place or somewhere they want to try?

Good morning,

We will also be in Paris March 23-26, along with our 11 year old grandson. This is his first trip to Europe! We're visiting Normandy for a few days before we arrive in Paris.

We're planning on dining at Fish on Sunday evening (closed Monday) and going on the Fat Mike Bike tour Monday evening from 7 -11.

I'll follow your plans and see if it's possible to meet up! We've met several other Fodors in the last year, in Prague, here in Cincinnati and in Salzburg. Everyone's been just great!

Hi Images2 - I hope it works that you can meet up with us! We will be leaving for Normandy on the 25th directly from Paris and it looks like you will have just come from there...we would love to get your advice before we go! Also I'm sure my son would enjoy meeting your grandson.

Gee, we're likely staying in Normandy March 19-23. We fly in from Rome around 2 pm on the 19th. We are currently planning to drive to Barbery, near Caen, for the nights of the 19th and 20th to stay at Les Fontaines:

www.lesfontaines.com

Still need to find a place -- a little closer to Paris, maybe around Honfleur??? -- for March 21st and 22nd, on the holiday weekend.

Anyone have suggestions?

Hi LunaBella,

I'm sure Austin would love meeting your son also! We'll see if it can work out. Fish said they were open as usual on Sunday p.m. I see you have a lunch scheduled that day though. I've promised Austin the bike ride Monday night so I can't change that. We'll be in Normandy March 21, 22, and a.m. of 23, Easter. We fly to Rome on the evening of March 26. We love Paris so much and hope Austin will also!

Have a wonderful trip!
