Paris from London- Can you do a day trip or do you need to stay over night?

Hi there,
we will be in London for 3 nights in July and are wondering whether a trip to Paris can be done in a day.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts?

3 days is not nearly enough for London so don't bother using one of the days to go to Paris.

Yes - it can be done in one day. I would not do it myself -- if I'm going to pay that much for transportation I'm going to get my money's worth and not rush around Paris for a few hours. I'd stay at least 1 or 2 nights to make it worth while. I'd just feel it is too much travel for too little benefit.

But lots of people do in fact do day trips to Paris and seem to enjoy it. The journey now is less than 3 hours on most trains so you can decide if 8 hours of travel (including travel to/from the station and check-in/secrity on eack leg) is worth it to you.

But if this is you first trip to London (or even 3rd or 4th) three days is barely enough time to see 5 or 6 of the major attractions/sites, let alone trying to squeeze Paris in as well.

A day trip to Paris, with the hours of round trip travel, involved would not be worth it for just a few hours in such a grand city. It certainly would not give you much of either the sights or the flavor of the place. Better, in my opinion, to make Paris a separate trip to give the city its due.

Hi Lordy,

It is doable, but not recommended. RT day fare is about 60 GBP at www.eurostar.com.

I agree that (a) you should stay overnight in Paris and (b) your trip to London is too short to include Paris.
