Just had a very bad experience with language school EFI that I wanted to share to warn other people. I ended up choosing them because of their price. But I advise other people to pay a bit more in the end so that you have a better school.

The communication with the school was terrible. You do not have to sign up or pay beforehand. I had email contact with them for about a month telling them I wanted to do a French language course and I told them the dates. They told me it was not a problem and that I could come on those dates.

They tell you you do a test to see which level you have on the first morning you arrive. You have to pay 5 euros for the test. These will be deducted if you take the course. I did the test and after they told me they did not have any space for my level (beginner plus) untill the end of March. I was never informed about this beforehand what so ever and had to find an other school very last minute. Besides, they could not refund me the 5 euros. So, just want to warn others about this scam.

reneehalen,

I think that any school that doesn't take at least a deposit is going to be open to question as they don't have any commitment to you, whereas if you've paid them some money, they have an obligation to provide a course.

indeed that's what happened when I did a course in Italy a few years ago to one of the other students - it turned out that her Italian wasn't good enough to keep up with the class so for the first week she had private lessons so she could catch up.

I'm sorry this happened to you though. Where were you? Were you able to find anywhere else?

There is a school in Paris that is real cheap.
Friend of mine went there to learn English.

Found himself at the top of the stairs facing a very ugly office.

He said 'ah, sorry, j'ai du me tromper je cherche l'école, ce n'est pas ici'.
Teacher answers 'if if, between'.

;-)

I highly recommend the school where I' m having class now. It' s a small school in the 11th, Langue Appart'. The teachers are very nice, communicative course, small groups, great atmosphere. The school is run by the teachers, it's maybe what makes the difference compared to big school where you feel you're just money!
