Paris/Francen August

Bonjour! We are considering spending our 15 yr anniversary in Paris with some day trips outside of the city in August. We have been to Paris & Provence region and have done all of the major must sees. I know that Paris is quiet in August, but wonder what that means? Will it be difficult to see certain sites or eat at certain establishments? Will it effect transportation?

Merci

Sights and transit will both be as usual. Some restaurant will be closed - but many more will be open. Unless you have your heart set on one specific places (and then I would check closing dates now) you should have no problem. Except possibly the heat!

Thank you nytraveler. I'm a southern girl so the heat won't faze me. Paris is so awesome, I can't imagine not loving it any time of the year!

Our favorite day trips have been to the Chateaux Vaux-le-Licomte and to Auvers-sur-Oise for the impressionist experience at the Auvers Chateau.

If you are not a regular traveler to Paris or need to eat at certain establishments, you won't even notice the difference between Paris in August and Paris the rest of the time.

How many day trips you take depends on how many days you have there.

Transportation won't be affected at all. Nor will openings for museums and monuments.

If there are specific restaurants where you want to eat, you might check to see if they will be open in August. Parisbymouth.com usually puts together a list (far from comprehensive, obviously) of August closures but I just checked and they have't published it yet for this year. Maybe in a couple weeks.

We spent a week in Paris in August. Didn't have a clue that anything was different. I would go again in August or any other time for that matter...I LOVE PARIS!

Paris in August will have fewer Parisians than in other months--many are away on the annual vacation--but there will be plenty of visitors from other parts of Europe and the US. Things will still be busy.

Thank you everyone. I love the France forum..I am so happy to be back-we went to Paris & the south of France for my first ever trip out of the states in 2004 and I've traveled to other countries since then-but Paris is by far my favorite. I'm not sure if that's because I dreamed of it my whole life & it was my first "big" trip or just because it is Paris-but I am so excited to be going back. I am combining it with a week in Amsterdam/Bruges & Brussels. Any suggestions on what to see since we have already seen all the big ticket items? We will have a week.
