Way too much dancing in both videos.

The first video is largely pointless - it shows a lot of experiences which are simply impossible (like seeing a sole dancer in the otherwise deserted Opera, not to speak of seeing dancers from a helicopter on top of the Eiffel Tower).

The second video is from the perspective of people with a special style of living - loving nightlife, loving hanging around in bars etc.

It is right that most scenes from the second video could have been filmed in New York City, in Berlin or in the industrial Ruhr Valley. Markets, bars, nightclubs, street dancers are nothing special about Paris. The second video shows how far globalization has come.

Here is my 2006 Paris Promotion video. Photos were all taken the week before (and on) Christmas Day. A few of the photos are from Reims where we took a day trip. I promise...No Dancing.

I preferred the second video to the first as it made the city look a bit more vibrant, but the people making the first video obviously had a job to do and a specific audience in mind, not carte blanche to be cool and 'authentic'.

Judging by the number of posts on here about buying ham and baguettes for picnics by the Seine, or romantic restaurants for proposals etc I'd say they nailed it...

<<the sanitation and the smell must be overpowering especially for people whose apartments front this strip.>>

What about the people who must live in the lack of sanitary conditions?
At least the people whose apartments front this strip have windows that they can close against the stench of humanity...

Are things that bad in Paris that they have to make silly videos to sell the City as a destination. I would have thought Paris has a reputation as the destination to visit.

Cheska, I think it Is a good point. Number of tourists is going down at an alarming rate.but it has nothing to do with what Paris has to offer but with security (terrorist attacks and, especially for Chinese, high profile incidents). So promotional stuff should address this issue, reassuring visitors.Must admit it is easier to say than to do.

And Kerouac has a point too !
My concern with these promotional vids is that even more tourists suffer from Paris syndrom...

What about the authorities doing something so the migrants don't have to live this way? It seems they act at glacial speed and with the same importance they place on chasing down illegal rentals.

I don't like either video. The official one is touristy, cheesy and a bit tacky, but the video response is also trying to sell a lifestyle I don't find appealing (concerts, skateboarders, hipsters, etc etc). I do like the diversity of the response video, though. It was nice to see different, less shiny markets.

Kerouac, I like your videos the best. I think it's because you get into the pace of Parisian life - walking along city streets, riding the bus, etc. That is the speed of life. The other videos are flashy and overdone. I also think you chose more interesting locations - metro stations, cemeteries, etc - that better represent the city.

Ah yes the authorities doing nothing.
On one hand it is a good excuse to rent illegal apartments without risks on the other hand they are glacial.
Maybe authorities should put migrants in illegal apartments and kick the tourists - thieves away ?
Or should we do it the Trump way ?
Blaming authorities is so easy to justify doing nothing and caring nothing

<Or should we do it the Trump way ? >

What exactly IS the Trump way? He has done nothing - he is not President yet.

<Blaming authorities is so easy to justify doing nothing and caring nothing>

Because they are PAID to ACT on behalf of the population.

Sure.
And trump is not president but is a fascist and has 40 pc of intentions of votes (coming from nearly half).
but what would you do ? You who criticizes. Send them back to Alep ? Park them somewhere out of sight of the tourists ?
they are fed and their camps are cleaned in order to avoid diseases. They have access to doctors. Now authorities are looking for better and longer term solutions.
But the same authorities must be blamed in the meantime.
And what do you do at your level ?

Paris does have a reputation as a destination but there is still competition and always will be. I think that is especially true when looking at those who have visited once...can you get them to come back? I love Paris and don't need the commercials to get me to return.

Sure, we have our own idea of what Paris is and it doesn't look anything like that first commercial! We know that we aren't locals and we know that the 6th arr is not representative of Paris for most Parisians. But, we love the area and while we try to see things we have not seen before on every trip, we like to stay in area that enjoy and mean "Paris" to us.
