Well I think the first is aimed at bringing tourists to Paris and does that very well - either to people who have money to spend or wish they did.
And while I recognize that the second is much more reflective of the way people live there, there were only 2 scenes in the whole thing that could;t have been shot - and been reflective - of places in NYC and probably several other cities.
If you're trying to drum up tourists you want to show what is 1) unique and 2) already famous to people who haven;t traveled.

Dukey Ottawa already has a beautiful tower. Look at this picture. The clever use of cement. The square corners. The parking spots.

I saw that last night. Very disturbing. We were curious about the camping in Paris. Some have very creative camping spots. The ones in the median were puzzling to myself, would be a bit noisy and dangerous but they had a bit of green space.

Liked the first as fantasy and the second as reality fantasy. Most areas of most cities are reality boredom or worse. I can say the the French sensibility shows well in both videos.
And you get your great photo essays with a Lumix? Wow! It's the eye, not the machine. (Or is it f4 and be there?)

Blueeyedcod, that video shows my neighborhood in Paris, and the situation is indeed grim for the refugees. However, the images are not very accurate since every time there has been a 'sweep' (I won't call it an evacuation), the mess is cleaned up within 2 hours. So showing the mess is not really indicative of the situation. We do not avoid the refugees since they are harmless, and many of us bring them food items or bars of soap whenever we can. Writing things like "the remaining French people avoid the areas at all cost, crime and rape is rampant, just recently mass brawls and riots made the news as fights broke out near the Stalingrad metro station" could not be farther from the truth.
Nevertheless, obviously something needs to be done, and the city of Paris is opening two official refugee camps very soon so that these people can be treated with dignity. At the moment, they are still camped out here and there in my part of town, and I will continue to help them.

Riots in Stalingrad?
Not on Tuesday and Wednesday's when I bike there.
I indeed saw the camps. Saw their evacuation - very quiet.
But I guess it doesn't sell. So some 'reporters' feel the need to add

Add some fear.
But indeed evacuation seemed necessary at least for hygiene.
But yes they are still there and still in need. I saw long files of people queuing for food. Again very quiet.
Nobody filming. Too quiet.

The video shows riots at 1.11 so not sure how that is not the truth.
I can see why these sweeps are done - the sanitation and the smell must be overpowering especially for people whose apartments front this strip. Good to know there will be regulated areas set up that have decent shelter and sanitation.

Sure.
I forgot.
Paris has been burning. Riots everywhere.
If it is on 9news.
We in Europe live under censorship. Normal - our governments are often socialists.
Luckily we have 9news foxnews and shitnews to be informed.

Actually I was probably at the same time at Stalingrad when the shootings during the day were made.
After the immigrants had been evacuated and before it was cleaned.
So the 'journalists' had access to the scene as well as myself on my bike.
They made it sound different than what I saw : I saw an orderly evacuation. I saw cleaning teams ready to sanitize. They saw that Paris is 'forcing' immigrants to live in inhumane conditions.
Ps : remind me how many immigrants went to Australia ? I suppose they all were given a house ?

In the first one, they definitely overused the Palais Garnier, which is amazingly photogenic but just screams at the viewer: "You will never have access to what we are showing!" And the thought of dancing around deserted areas of the Eiffel Tower leaves me speechless. The attraction of the second video is the whole idea that anybody in the city can experience absolutely everything being shown.

So let me understand the point of all of this. First, Paris makes a promo video to go out to potential tourists. I will assume they are trying to encourage tourists to come to Paris, given that their numbers are down.
Second, people who already live in Paris (Parisians) believe that Paris should be seen differently?
Is that second video focused to specifically encourage tourism?
Maybe I'm missing something, but USUALLY, the sales video highlights not only the "best" you have to offer, but also what many or most expect to find and put it in a glorified light.
As a promo video for someone who hadn't ever been to Paris, I would think that the first video would excite me. The second one would fit well with those who regularly visit. But as a regular visitor, I don't need a video to encourage me to come to Paris, we came 60 days after Charlie Hebdo, and again following the Bataclan.
The second video represents the Paris I've seen and fell in love with, but it certainly isn't a promo video for those who've never been.

Way too much dancing in both! ;^)
Seriously though, the second video might as well have been shot in NY. At least, I see all that stuff (minus closing shot of ET) on a mile or two walk through Manhattan. Except they're fishing in the East River.
To me the film shows a generic wealthy western city. Since Paris is anything but a generic western city, I think I'd like to see more of what makes it uniquely Paris.

These several films do show some of what I love about Paris. The first is boring, the second somewhat better, though I am not a music/night person, and some of Kerouac's scenes are good.
We can all find things to criticize, I think because we all want to re-create in our vision and in our minds the things we remember and love about Paris, which are, of course. different for everyone who has experienced Paris, which I am fortunate enough to have done about 7 times, and always long for more!

Well I liked both of the Paris videos.. for different reasons. Fantasy is fun.. we all pretty well know we cant dance on the roof of the second level on the Eiffel Tower.. lol but wouldn't it be fun.. however.. not everyone portrayed in the second video comes off as completely authentic either.. where are the scowling people.. there are scowling people in every city.. at least 2 or 3 anyways.. lol
I liked Keros too.. for different reasons. He shows various areas.. so a good mix.. although, I wouldn't personally feel the need to seek out some of those areas..
I do not ANY of them being fully representative of Paris as that is impossible to accomplish. Its a large diverse city.. with rich, poor, grubby and gorgeous areas.
I too found the write up for Blueeyes video to be disturbing.. never heard of this wild spread rape.. I call baloney on that..
It is sad to see that many homeless people.. but in the city where I live we have a "tent city" .. which was very similar.. police just recently tore it down.. after months of court orders etc.. and it looked a lot like that.. problem is.. tearing down or dispering homeless people doesn't solve the homeless problem.. it just makes it scattered about.. those people still are homeless and are still living on the streets somewhere.
When I was young and visited Paris I saw mostly the nice areas.. because that is where my family lived.. doesn't mean they weren't authentic areas.. and that my relatives did not live authentic lives..
