Paris for the weekend
 

Just in case anyone has any ideas, I thought I'd post my options for the wkd. Flying out tonight late, and flying home Monday - 440 PM flight on Air France.

Saturday - Left Bank stroll. I did some research on various food/clothing shops to visit, mostly in the 6th, and put some addresses in google maps and have a walking route (that I will deviate from anyway).

Sunday morning - some street market. I am staying in the 5th and I think rue Monge has one, but no doubt there are others on a Sunday morning.

11 AM Sunday the Marmottan opens. Big exhibit for Monet, dueling with the Grand Palais. I plan to see that first.

Sunday afternoon either the Passages, or, Rue Montorgueil. Not sure if shops will be open. At least I'll get some nice photos if things are closed. I'd really like to take photos of the grand department stores, Galeries Lafeyette looks so pretty.

The Grand Palais and Monet will likely be late Sunday. It's 24/7 this final weekend. I bought my Carte Sesame so I can walk right in (51 euros).

Monday - probably just wander and take photos. Maybe in the Marais. I leave for the airport at 130 for a 440 flight. I might be able to fit in a museum.

Rue Mouffetard market is very good on Sunday mornings. It's better than rue Monge IMHO.

On the weekends, you also have a market at Blvd Richard Lenoir (by Bastille/Marais), but you may feel this takes you a bit out of your way. Arts and crafts on Saturday, general market on Sundays. Galeries Lafayette isn't open on Sundays - you might want to take your photographs on the Saturday (and/or visit the Bon Marché, which can be quite photogenic).

In the Marais, or nearby, you have the Carnavalet (history of Paris, but mostly in French), Pompidou (modern art) and Picasso museums, as well as more chi-chi shops than you can shake stick at.

I second the Rue Mouffetard market on Sunday morning. Also, do any shopping on Saturday as most everything is closed Sunday.

The market at Monge is place Monge, it isn't called the rue Monge market, as far as I know, and it isn't on the street, it's just on that small "place". It is relatively small compared to many in Paris, although I do think it is Sunday morning.

RUe Mouffetard isn't a roving market like that, these are two different things. It is just a street with permanent shops, what is called a market street (like rue Cler and rue de Buci). Lots of the shops are food-related. There are some other things in there, a little clothing, accessories, there i9s a hardware store there as I recall as I've rented apts in the neighborhood twice -- and some cafes and cheap restaurants.

Now there are some temporary guys with produce down at the bottom of rue Mouffetard near the church at some times, I don't think they are there every day but I don't remember. If you don't want produce, that's nothing special.

How about brunch at the Jacquemart-André on Sunday? And then a visit to the Marché aux Livres at Square Georges Brassens?

Other Sunday markets are the bird market in front of Notre Dame, the Rue Montorgeuil market, and the Marché d'Aligre (métro Ledru-Rollin), which is pretty interesting.

Thank you for the input! I will check out rue Mouffetard. I have been to the PLACE Monge market before, I agree, it's pretty small. It was fine though. I bought a few "pashmina" scarves and even a blouse.

Thank you Patrick, I will try to visit the various department stores on either Saturday or Monday. I will have a little time Monday morning.

StCirq, thanks, those are other good ideas. I do want to try to see Rue Montorgeuil. If it's open after 2 PM I may see it. Jacquemart-Andre was a consideration, too. Too little time.

Subsequent to posting this I found out that the Rodin Museum is also having a small Monet exhibit. If I can squeeze it in, I will try to visit all three Monet exhibits. Monet Monet Monet.

ooh, flygirl, if you see this before you go, don't bank on walking straight into the grand palais, even with your sesame ticket.

we had to queue for about 30 mins with ours.

and you need to take a passport sized photo for them to put on the card proper that you will need to swap for the piece of paper you printed off.

Oops. The photo, I do NOT have. SIGH. I won't have time before I head to the airport tonight, either.

Does it need to be an official passport photo, or could I print one I already have and give it to them?

I am not worried about 30-40 minute waits. 4.5 hours, yes.

There is a biggish organic food market in the Boulevard Raspail on Sunday mornings.
