Paris for the day?
 

I am thinking about taking the train into Paris for the day. I might want to spend the night.Can you recommend a romantic section of Paris to stay? Near the train station is not important!

SORRY, I don't know, London or Brussels.
$200 for the night. I just want it to be in a good location for walking with shops and cafes.

I suggest that you save Paris for its own visit. A daytrip is long, tiring and doesn't permit you to really enjoy the city.

That is why I was going to spend the night. Still would like suggestions. I read about Rue Jacob, what do you think?

Yes, the 5th or 6th districts are popular and old-worldish--narrow streets, older buildings, etc.
With your budget, you have lots of choices for hotels.
At the top of this screen, click on Hotels, and look at the Paris hotel listings, most of them will have user comments with ratings. That may help you narrow things down.
Hotels in the rue Jacob-St Germain area are many, but include the Marronniers,
d'Angleterre, Danube,Millesime,St-Peres,
etc

Yes, definitely stay overnight. I suggest you take an early morning train to Paris and the last evening train back to your starting point the next day. Since you like to walk, that will allow you to enjoy some Paris landmarks under the lights after dark one evening and have a leisurely dinner the other evening. And you'll have plenty of time to stroll during daylight hours too.

Here's a little hotel we loved when we were there in november. Hotel de Notre Dame, Rue Maitre Albert, in the 5th bordering on 6th. It's on a charming little side street off the Seine right at Notre Dame cathedral.

I take it you haven't been to Paris? There are two small islands in the Seine right in the middle of the city...the Ile de la Cite (Notre Dame/Saint Chapelle) and Ile St. Louis. The Iles are perfect for strolling, window shopping and seeing the river and several beautiful bridges. Many restaurants and shops. Not to mention Berthillon ice cream!

From this hotel you're no more than 100 yards from the Seine and the Iles. A double is around 150E ($168). Rooms are small, but well appointed and very clean.

Also, if you the site below, it has a picture (top left) taken in front of the hotel looking out to the Seine. Those trees at the end of the street are at the river. If you look carefully you can see the spires of the cathedral over the treetops.

You're going to be coming from EITHER London OR Brussels? Bit of distance between the two...
