I've been scouring old threads for interesting Paris activities, and this thread is an absolute goldmine.

Ttt!

Imelda72,
as you've topped this I'm going to add a link.

Here are the blog posts to the four month trip we took to Paris two years ago. Modern architecture, small museums and galleries, restaurants and walks. I hope it's useful.

As Michel suggested above---The Marmottan. Fabulous!

Cooking class at "Reed"---haven't done it but my friend did and loved it.

Chocolate tour? OMG, I must go back for that!

The Musée Bourdelle in Montparnasse is free, since it is municipal museum.

Friday night rollerblading… Every Friday night thousands of people gather and they blade through the streets of Paris for around 16 miles. The route changes every week. It's pretty fast paced so you should at least be an intermediate skater. My fiancé and I packed our blades and were able to make it for two Friday skates last time we were there. It was a great feeling being welcomed and recognized by the locals when we arrived that second Friday of our trip. There are skate shops that rent blades around town if you don't want to pack your own.

I like the Bourdelle very much too and it works well in combination with a drink at the Tour Montparnasse's restaurant/bar.

If you like to visit artist's studios/museums I'd also recommend the Gustave Moureau...

or the Dubuffet Foundation

I appreciate your links, welltraveldbrit, but I would rather slit my wrists than visit the Dubuffet Foundation.

welltraveledbrit Aug 30th, 2015 01:01 PM

nukesafe: lol,I hope it doesn't come to that ;).

MaineGG Aug 30th, 2015 02:38 PM

nukesafe - Please, don't go there. I kind of like seeing a Dubuffet work now and again, but agree that it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. Are you planning to do a trip report from your recent trip? I've always enjoyed your TRs.

And, to contribute something to this thread, I don't believe these have been mentioned:

The Bibliothèque Nationale Française François Mitterand where you can see the wonderful Coronelli Globes presented to Louis XIV by Cardinal d'Estrées in the late 17th Century.

Which combines well with a visit to:

The Cinémathèque Française housed in a Frank Gehry building across the Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir from the library. I was lucky to see the Jacques Demy special exhibit there a couple of years ago. From the bridge you can see the floating Josephine Baker swimming pool.

TR ... in french means 'Toucher rectal'
I let you find out why I'm always laughing out loud when I read this...

Nuke !!! Don't do me a TR, please... but do tell me when you go to Paris , first round(s) on me !

nukesafe Aug 30th, 2015 05:04 PM

Believe me, Pariswat, you are absolutely safe from any possibility of a TR from me! I have heard that such practices are not unknown in France, so we will need to have that drink in Belgium, I suppose, to be safe.

Now a Trip Report is quite another matter, MaineGG. Life has interfered with me producing one for my last trip in May. If I do one I'm afraid it will be too dated to be of help to anyone.

Even though portions of this thread are about 4 years old, some of the info is super. Bookmarking for personal enlightenment.

MaineGG- I agree with your suggestions, we did a walk that started at Gehry's The Cinémathèque Française, crossed the river to the The Bibliothèque Nationale and continues to walk west to the Institute du Monde Arabe. From here there's a lovely rooftop restaurant and viewing platform with a nice view over Notre Dame. It's a great contrast to all the modern buildings!
It's a great route for anyone interested in modern architecture in Paris.

Here's ablog post outlining the route with pictures.
