Paris for my 50th!

My boyfriend and I are planning to celebrate my 50th in Paris in September. This is our first trip to Paris. I'd love to get some suggestions for moderately priced hotels in a good area from where we can see Paris.

Hello, Rita!
My husband and I were in Paris last year for two weeks. We stayed in the St. Germain area (6th). It is centrally located, near the Musee D'Orsay, the Louvre, and the Luxembourg Gardens. A good website for hotels is in France.com They have a lot of hotels, with reviews from those who have stayed there.
Have a great trip!

Oh,Rita, what a wonderful way to ease into the Fifties~:)
We go to Paris every year, more if the gods are smiling on us-we stay on the Left Bank, more charm, character(as if the rest of Paris isn't brimming with character!)-but somehow it is less touristy and we just like it more. There are also more hotels that are affordable.I will give you names of some of my favorites and also links to look into things on your own-
The Hotel De Lutece on the Ille St Louis, this is the tiny island next to the Ille de La Cite where Notre Dame is,is it small, beautiful and every one that lives in Paris wants to live on the Ille St Louis!Try to get a room on the 5th or 6th floor in the front,so you can look out over the rooftops. The Danube on rue Jabob, charming,a block off the Blvd St Germain, there is so much to see and do there than you could never leave your neighborhood and be too busy every minute!I like the look of the Milleseme Hotel also on rue Jacob. There are people on this board that know so much more about these things than I do and you will get lots of good advice.
www.paris-touristoffice.com
www.hotelboulevard.com
and of course the guide books!
Access Paris and if you can find one-Frommers Irreverant Guide to Paris
There! that should get you started! Have fun~C

I'll just add my moderately-priced favorite to the list. It's also in the St.-Germain area, only half a block from the Seine and the Musee' d'Orsay. It's the Libertel Bellechasse, on Rue Bellechasse. Libertel is a chain of nice smaller hotels in France and they have a website which I believe is simply www.libertel.fr or libertel.com. Sorry I don't have the exact address handy, but it can't be too hard to find.

Rita---
Sorry, I looked up the Libertel web site and it is under www.mercure.com, since the Libertel chain is a part of the Mercure hotels network. I believe the entire address to get you to the proper place is www.mercure.com/gb/libertel

Hi:

You have it right. I went to Paris for my 50th for 2 weeks during the month of Sept. and the eather was perfect.
I sayed with my partner in a apt on
Ille St.Louis and it was convenient
to everything on the rt. and left bank.
I used barclay international out of n.y.c and it worked out perfect. I even
took the train to Amsterdam for one day.
Paris is a great city and the island is
perfect. Go to the La Samataine Dept.
store and check the roofdeck for the view. I also advice you to bring a french phrase book. Have a great time.
Barb

If the apt rental is appealing to you, go to www.barclayweb.com-we have used them for apts in Florence and Rome, friends have used them for villas in Tuscany,no complaints from any of us~

I stayed two years ago at the Hotel de la Places Des Vosges, which is right off the above-named square, which many deem the most beautiful in the world. My single room was tiny, but I'm going back in April w/my daughter (my Bat Mitzvah present to her - Paris is a great gift to someone else or yourself) so I'll see then what the doubles are like. Great location, walk to everywhere, very good breakfasts, reasonable (around $90 a night for a double). I celebrated my 50th almost a year ago, great time in life.

Rita,

Hi, and congratulations on your 50th! Hotel de Fleurie, in the heart of St. Germaine de Pres, is well-located for sightseeing, and according to friends of ours who return there nearly every year, it's got a very knowledgeable staff and lovely rooms, and is moderately priced for Paris. The hotel has been recommended many times by others on this forum.
Also, one I've been looking into lately, the Hotel Le Tourville, in the 7th arrondissement, very close to the Eiffel Tower, is supposed to be quite nice and moderately priced. It's an old townhouse that's been recently renovated, and the rooms look really nice.
If you're looking for a splurge, my husband and I have stayed several times at the Relais de Christine in the 6th arrondissement. It's an old, small hotel that was once a monastery! The rooms are small, but extremely pretty, and the location couldn't be better. It's about a fifteen minute walk from Notre Dame or the Louvre. We've just loved the place, and the staff is great! One last recommendation: Friends of mine stayed at the Hotel Lennox and loved it. It's a moderately priced hotel and I think it's in or near Notre Dame.
If I can be of any further help, just e-mail.
Have a great trip!

If you mean the Lenox St Germain, it is on 9 rue de L'Universite. If you don't stay there, the bar is nice at night. Also very nice in that neighborhood and reasonable is the L'Universite,22 rue de L'Universite, they have fireplaces, and it is quite charming and in the great area of the Left Bank between the Seine and Blvd St Germain..and by the way-Happy Birthday (in Sept:)I spend as many birthdays as I can in Paris~

www.france.com has much lower rates (I think $117-130 Euros) for the Hotel de Fleurie (which indeed looks special) than their own website, but when I tried to book for April, they were full. This is a great site because there are also customer comments (even negative ones). I have used it for booking hotels in Paris and other places in France and have never been disappointed. Good luck!

(I finally ended up booking at le Clement--despite a couple of posters who said they lost their reservations; I'm going to call before I go). Look for 2-star and 3-star hotels in St. Germain, Latin Quarter or Eiffel Tower area. It's a fun site just to explore. You will find many of these hotels there.
