Paris for Christmas?

Problem with previous posting. I will be in Paris from 12/26-12/30. Is there any advice anyone could give me about being there this time of year? I'm worried things will be closed. I want to go to some nice restaurants and do some sightseeing. My hotel is the Astotel St. George Opera. Anyone know anything about this hotel?

No, things won't be closed at all. Paris will be packed with foreigners and French visiting the city and relatives.<BR>Bring an umbrella and at least a second pair of shoes. Last year it was pouring at that exact period.<BR>Sorry, can't comment on that particular hotel. Assuming it will be close to the Opera Garnier, you can easily walk to the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, department stores.<BR>Have fun!<BR>

In France, 25 December is a public holiday, but that is all. It's like a normal Sunday, with shops shut but lots of caf&eacute;s and restaurants open. The 26th is a normal working day.

We were there last Christmas. The most important advice I can give is to get a Museum Pass. Everything was very crowded and the pass allows you to jump to the front of the line. We did so at the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay, and Versailles and saved virtually hours. The lights on the Champs Elysees were beautiful. I recommend getting to the Arch de Triumph around 4 pm, having a mulled wine in a cafe along the Champs and then watching the lights go on and walking to Place de Concorde.<BR><BR>It was cold and wet, raining about half the week. Wear good shoes, hat, scarf and gloves. It's very warm indoors but you can check your coat most places.<BR><BR>To get away from the crowds for awhile, visit Chateau Vincennes. It's at the end of one of the metro lines, a mere 10 minutes from the city center, and is a beautiful Chateau with NO crowds.
