Paris First time visitors in May
 

We are going to Paris for 9 days at the end of May. Have hotel reservations at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe. We are 60 and 62. Are there any discounts to the musuems for people our age? Do you know about any vegetarian restaurants that you could recommend. Have been reading the Fodor's forum and have been getting great information. Thank you.

You might find this website useful. A few years ago our family (I believe) ate at the first listed restaurant near the Pompidou.Our daughters are both vegan and we all enjoyed our dinners. We had French dishes without the "kill".

I was in Paris in June 2011 and found that most restauarants had some vegetarian meals or could adapt something. We had dinner in an Indian Restauarnt where they had multiple veg options, vegetarian (but not vegan) crepes all over the place and falafel's in Rue De La Huchette in the 5th (near Notre Dame).

And if all else fails there's always the amazing macarons and pastries - yum!

For a really splurge vegetarian meal get reservations at l'Arpege (3 Michelin stars) on rue de Varenne in the 7th. They do serve fish, however.

Do you mind having vegetarian meals at non-vegetarian restaurants? We've found Paris to be a pretty easy city to eat in that way. For a sandwich/quick meal, we love Cosi on rue de Seine. (Not really French food, but lots of good, cheap veggie sandwiches and salads.) La Jacobine on rue St-Andre de arts is wonderful. (Quiet but not out of the way, huge veggie salads/omlettes & more) Le Potager du Marias on rue Rambuteau was tiny but tasty. (A true vegetarian restaurant, but skip the desserts.) Cafe Boboli on rue du Roi de Sicile does very nice pasta. Pink Flamingo Pizza has a couple of locations around town--it's not fine dining, but the pizzas are good & creative and make a nice picnic.

I don't know about any age-related discounts that there might be, but have you looked at the Paris Museum Pass? If you plan on visiting lots of museums, it can be a real bargain. And the best feature of all? You get to skip the ticket lines at most attractions, which we've found to be a huge time saver. (not to mention being easier on our feet :) )

These restaurants sound amazing. Will definitely try the fancy and love casual dining. Is there a dress code at l'Arpege. Not a problem that they serve fish. Always wanted to try a 3 star Michelin. I am so excited by this trip and the food will be the icing on cake!

The food in France is FRENCH even if it doesn't have any animal products make no mistake
