Paris favorites, off the beaten track
 

I travel to Paris once or twice a year and like to see a mixture of new and familiar. I will be there in January this year - a first for me. I would love some suggestions for things that I may not have seen or any particularly interesting exhibits/activities this month. I am sure there are probably some good threads on this but I don't know where to find them so if someone could share that would be great. Thanks!

Have you been to the Albert Kahn Museum & Gardens? I think these particular gardens would be beautiful even in January and the museum is unique, mostly vintage photographs from far-flung places around the world, Albert Kahn's passion.

Albert Kahn Museum
The web site says that the museum is under renovation, and the gardens can only be visited by a guided tour. Hope they finish the renovations by the time we're there in Sept this year!!

Really, the gardens are the best part. The Japanese garden was closed for renovation when I was there so it looks like they're doing the whole place, though the museum looked perfectly fine to me. Do go, Stu, even if it's just for the garden.

Thanks, Mme Perdu, I have not been to Albert Kahn Gardens - looks great. I found some other interesting things on the blog site as well.

The Albert Kahn gardens are not ready yet. The renovation is a long process, but most of the vegetation is accessible.

nudist restaurant??? I wonder how it is doing??

Do they have (un)dressing rooms? A bit chilly getting there otherwise. And other concerns as I think about it.

I wonder a lot of things.... among them - how are dessert sales? is the food good? how do you stay warm?

I just had a look at those upholstered chairs.

They may issue "personal" cushions that guests can take home or discard.

When in January? I enjoyed this exhibit about cinema and Montmartre, but it only runs through the 14th.

One of my favorite things to take people to do is lunch and Jazz Manouche on Sunday afternoons in Saint Ouen. La Chope de Puces is fun, informal, has great (inexpensive) food and wine and excellent gypsy jazz! You can also visit the famous flea markets in the neighborhood.
