Paris fashion police

The shop windows have spoken. It's black for the women and dark gray for the men.

That will be all. Be careful if you are planning a visit before spring.

I believe some pundits think otherwise (not that I care, but it's a dull Friday afternoon):

I don't much care, either, but my observation was that various shades of gray and purple seemed to dominate in the shop windows (third week in August).

I think it is a mix of purple, black and grey.

I ended up with an aubergine dress last week in Pau, and I am dying for the autumn to arrive to be able to wear it.

I love black, it has always been my base color( for last 35 years) Black as a base is never in or out, it just "is". LOL

BUT,, what comes and goes fashion wise is the accent..

Purple is the "it" color this year.. even my 12 yr said yesterday "purple is the new pink" ( keep in mind she is talking about what a 12 yr girl would wear)

I did buy a great purple sweater and scarf. Also a nice gray sweater.

Thank god I can wear them in Paris with my predominantly black wardrobe.

I keep waiting for polka dot ties to come back into style. My wife is waiting for sack dresses to return to favor. She has a green one with magenta stripes.

Bob - can you post a photo of that dress? Are they awning stripes or pin stripes?

Ah, but is there anywhere in Paris where you can get the framework to convert it into a handy deckchair?

Sorry, but we cannot locate the dress right now. It is buried somewhere, possibly in the backyard.

It had awning stripes on the horizontal. Some pink, some magenta with a nice billow at the hem line.

Given some of the outfits I have seen in Europe, I don't think it would attract much attention.

I think we gave the dotted tie to the clothing drive. Or maybe it was used in a quilt that my wife gave away.

Come to think of it, the sack dress may have gone into a quilt.

http://www.sisley.com/Site/Index.php

This is the Sisley website. If you click on Woman Collection you will see the colour palette for Fall. I think this is pretty acurate.

Notice the boots. These are HOT right now.

Look for capes, magenta cowl neck sweaters, and textured tights.

Canvas shopping totes and duffel bags (especially the ones shaped like a tootsie roll) are also HOT.

Purple, black and grey were the "in" colors when I was staying in Paris LAST August... have they really not come up with something new since then?

In LA, it seems to be all about the 3/4-length trench coat (black preferred), some jewel tones, and a bunch of g-d-awful tops and dresses that look like something my grandma would wear.

Herself and I are heading for Paris in the not-too-distant future. This information will have no impact on our choice of what to pack.

Style outranks fashion.

It's fashion week in NYC, so we shall see how they compare.

But as you know, black is the official color of NYC.

Good on you, Padraig. But be prepared to pay the fines.

Isn't black, like, so 20th century?

Yes, Ira, it is. Cynthia Heimel wrote a hilarious piece about black being over, years ago. I will see if I can find it.

In the meantime, feast your eyes on the new Essie colors for fall. I am running out to get a pedicure as soon as I find out who around here has these. Love them.

I love every one of those colors, but surely Opi makes something similar? (and boy do I need a pedicure after 2-1/2 weeks in Egypt, Madrid and London without one).

Oops, sorry for the OT (at least it's about FASHION!)
