Paris evening activities for kids

Any ideas what to do in Paris at night with a ten year old? We plan a boat ride and an evening trip up the Eiffel Tower, but are at a loss for other ideas. June trip is planned. Thanks.

The thing my kids liked best in Paris - and that is of everything we saw and did - was the Fat Tire Bike Tour one evening. Really good fun, and I loved it too!

What we tend to do is tour all day, then come back to the hotel/apartment for a few hours for a rest, then go to dinner, then go home.

If you really feel the need for evening "entertainment", how about a movie? There are lots of movies in English, with French subtitles. If I were you, unless your child is a confirmed night owl, I would not spend a whole lot of money on tickets to some special night time event...after walking around all day, your child might just fall asleep when seated in the dark in a comfortable chair (you might, too.)

I agree with missypie. I wouldn't worry about planning too much for evenings. We were all usually pretty beat by the time dinner was over. We did do a Seine boat ride one night which was great. I think that, the Eiffel Tower and the idea of the Fat Tire Bike Tour are great ideas. But don't plan too much ahead of time for the evenings.

I have the same advice. With our then-10-year-old in Paris, we would walk a lot throughout the day. In the evening, often we would sit at a cafe and have drinks (wine for grownups, a French soda for our son). Then dinner at 8. By the time dinner was over, he would be glass-eyed with sleep.

The night we did the boat ride - which was a huge hit. We looked hard to find a restaurant that opened at 7:30, which we did, then took the 9:30 boat.

The Fat Tire evening bike tour includes a boat ride on the Seine as well as a stop for ice cream at Bertillon (sp).

If you are there on a Friday evening take him to watch the roller skaters who cruise the streets of Paris at that time. Great fun. Check on the route.

You could go to a movie. Find a film in English with French subtitles (V.O.). S/he might like the unusual experience.

Thanks for all the great ideas. How experienced do you need to be for the bike tour? We will have my in-laws with us and they do ride, but not too fast!

The bike riding is slooooooow. No worries. I had just finished two weeks of riding in the Alps and Pyranees chasing Lance and Jan around the country before taking the Fat Tire Day trip in Paris. No little Spanish senior citizen pushing my ass up a grade as was required in the Alps!

When I did the evening Bike Tour I had not been on a bicycle for almost 20 years! I was VERY wobbly but it's true - you never forget. I took up the rear position while the kids forged ahead doing wheelies and kerb jumps with the other youngsters. The route takes you along cycle lanes and you hardly have to go on the streets at all. Best of all the route is flat so no worries about puffing up hills! Don't worry and do it, it's great fun.

Julia. That sounds perfect. I will absolutely make a reservation.

Thanks for the tip!

I am considering Fat Tire Bike Tours with our kids 9 and 11 in a month. They emailed me very promtply with answers to my questions, and it seems like a great activity day or night for families with kids. I'll let you know how it was when we return mid April.

Climb the steps of the Arc de Triomphe? It is a fun climb (a bit tough though) and the view over the city from the top is amazing.

Karen,
Even our 23 yo daughter was too exhausted after walking around all day to go out more than once. It's amazing how tiring it is! I think a couple of planned evenings sounds perfect. Our 14 yo especially liked watching the french version of MTV and watching American movies on TV (more exotic somehow.)
