Paris European Heritage Days

Just discovered that one of the two Heritage Days (September 17-18) for 2016 we will be in Paris!

Since this is only our second time in this beautiful city, can you guide me as to which sites you would visit? Curious about others' experienced choices.

Here are some suggestion from the tourism website in English. The vintage bus tour looks cool, and check out the Louis Vuitton building...

And here is the official programme, available in French or (poorly)translated by computer, with the full listings:

Thanks for any suggestions! We are music lovers, and I do love old mansions...if that is any help :)

To be honest, if I had never been to Paris before, I probably wouldn't focus on any of those events. Most of them are nothing unusual, just lectures on special topics at museums and other places that are always open, anyway. And for places that may be free that are not usually, the crowds are going to be large, no doubt. I imagine the lectures etc are going to be only in French.

If it were me really, since I've been to Paris many times, as well as the above caveats about crowds, I would only choose events that were marked with the symbol for "ouverture exceptionelle" which should mean a place is not typically open to the public. Scanning the list, I'd probably choose Hotel Matignon, the residence of the prime minister.

Other than that, I like this event, but you have to sign up

Thanks for posting the link. Enjoy choosing!!!

Over the years I've been here, I've seen many of those offered. My favorites were the Republican Guard, the Oscar Niemeyer designed Communist Party HQ, Foundation Le Corbusier and the National Library on rue Richelieu but that isn't showing on the Program for this year. (I'm not much for crowds or splendor.)

I'm interested in the choices others post on this thread.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.
In 2012 we were in The Dordogne during this weekend and saw so many wonderful things only available at that time.

We will be in Paris on Sat.the 17th and it never came to mind.

High on our list will be "ELYSEES PALACE"-----I'll bet there will be a long, long line to get in though.......Is it open on only that weekend or other times of the year also?

Any tips on timid for Elysees Palace?

Is the entrance on Rue St. Honore or Ave, Gabriel?

Fuzz----thanks for the tip. We'll see what develops. After recently reading the reviews on the long lines I'm not sure if we will try it or not.
