Paris- Dordogne

Bonjour,
My husband and I are planning on taking a train out of Paris to the Dordogne area (probably camping near Sarlat). What would be the best town for our arrival? We would like to rent a car there too.

Merci!

Easiest is probably to take a train from Gare d'Auterlitz in Paris to Brive la Gaillarde, pick up your car there and drive to the Sarlat area. Four hour train ride, 40 minute drive.

Other option is to go to Libourne or Bordeaux, and pick up a car there.

You can check train times on the SNCF train site

Or TGV from Montparnasse to Libourne or Bordeaux and CoRail to Périgueux, from which you have a 40-minute drive to Sarlat.

Or Austerlitz on regional train to Périgueux.

Or Paris-Gare Austerlitz to Sarlat, via Souillac. In Souillac you'll get off the train and directly onto a very comfy bus which will take you directly to the train station in Sarlat. The EuropCar office is just at the bottom of the hill from the train station, a 3 or 4 minute walk.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We're taking the train to Brive, then renting a car.
