Paris Disney Question
 

We are members of the Disney Vacation Club and can use our points to stay at Paris Disney. We are thinking about making Disney our home base to explore other areas of the region since the trains are right there. We spent 10 days in Paris two years ago, so would my travel there maybe one day. Does this seem like a reasonable plan...to use Disney as a travel base?

I think it totally depends on where those other places you plan to visit are located IN RELATION TO Disney...are you going to end up traveling through, and possibly changing IN, Paris anyway?

My wife and I are owners in the Marriott Vacation Club program and stayed at the Marriott resort next to Paris Disneyland for a week in May. We had a rental car and used it to explore areas east (ie Reims) and south. To answer your question, Disney is a very good base if you plan to explore east and south. A rental car will allow you to visit many of the small towns (ie Provins) that tourists don't normally reach. Like you, we only went into Paris one day. Although the RER is easy and convenient, the trip takes longer than I'd expected - I wouldn't want to use the Disney area as my base if I planned to spend lots of time in Paris.

There is no such thing as "the trains". There are many different trains heading to many different destinations from many different stations in Paris. If the places you want to see are on the opposite side of Paris from Disney - that will just make your travel longer and more complicated - taking a train into Pairs, then switching train stations, then taking another train to wherever you are headed.

To know if ths makes sense you have to identify where you will be going and then figure out if you can get there without going into Paris and switching stations,

I think thyminator is referring to the trains "right there" at the Chessy-Disneyland TGV station, but it should be pointed out that all of these trains are for going long distances. If the idea is to take some local trains, a trip into Paris to go to the appropriate station would indeed be necessary.
