Sigh...I really hope not!

You can also just walk into any cafe and order yourself a big old omelette without too much fuss. Omelettes are generally all the same, unless you like them "runny" - "baveuse".
Also chicken is usually on a menu, either in salads or as a main dish.
Crepes are good at Pot O' Lait or Breizh Cafe.
Scallops are out of season - and will be frozen.
If you eat cheese, you will be spoiled for choices.
And if you eat charcuterie, this will also be the case.

Auberge Bresanne in the 7ème specializes in "old-fashioned" French dishes like coq au vin and boeuf bourgignon, or at least it used to.

If you avoid veal because of principles, you are unfamiliar with the way most French farmers raise their animals.

You seem to have a skewed view of "most French food." Try Flunch.

We enjoyed dinner at Aux Anysetiers du Roy. 61 rue, Saint-Louis en Ile. Theirs' seem like a menu you would enjoy/

Oh, my. I seem to have given the impression that I eat absolutely nothing! So not true. I love German food, Greek, Italian, Spanish. I just don't eat certain meats. I am not trying to insult the French cuisine.

Well, you don't eat fish, either, so it isn't just certain meats. I admit I thought it was odd that you considered fish a type of French cuisine, since it is so common in so many countries. I gather this is just because you dislike all seafood, not because you think a fish is a superior sentient being to a cow or pig, which you will eat.

I'm with you on the snails, though, and yes I've had them once for a try. I don't eat garden slugs at home, either. I think some of those kinds of foods may have developed out of desperation, not because they are good (same for insects, some famine or lack of better food). That isn't a main course anyway, usually, it's just one of the things on the starters list. And to be honest, I don't eat pate, although I like fois gras.

I'm surprised you didn't mention frog legs, ha ha, now that's a specialty I have never tasted, I admit, but you don't see it all that often on menus. YOu don't see escargot in a lot of places, either, for that matter.

What about rabbit, you into rabbit? I don't like it that much, but don't hate it. They used to serve it to us in the dining hall of this French university I went to one summer and I remember talking with a classmate about how I didn't think I'd ever had rabbit and she said "oh, yes, you have, they serve it here weekly). All along I thought it was something else.

So you like chicken and beef and apparently pork (which surprises me, as I find Alsatian cuisine rather disgusting with all the sausage, so you will eat that, which surprises me). I do not like coq au vin as I don't think red wine goes with chicken.

But if you want certain traditional French dishes, and I know they make boeuf bourguinon, you could try Chez Fernand. They have a couple locations, one in St Germain and one in Montparnasse where I go. I don't eat that dish, but I know they have it on the carte and since everything else I've had there is good, I presume it is also. http://www.chezfernand-guisarde.com/en/la-carte-en/

see, they do have escargots on the starters menu, yum....

interesting article on escargot in France, and the story is that it eating them did start out of desperation

No wildlife- rabbit, deer, frogs or goat. I do like pork- sausages are natural to me coming from a German/Austrian background. White fish like flounder, sole, shrimp and scallop, nothing with a fishy taste. I think I looked at the Chez Fernard menu.

fuzzbucket Jul 5th, 2017 09:58 PM

It is easy to look at any menu, which is posted by law, outside any café or restaurant.
Just do it, if you get hungry.

Those with religious-allergies-and-just-plain-don't-like-to-eat-whatever-it-is is really not interesting to most people.

If you are hungry you can always find something to eat...unlike many people who go hungry in this world.

>>> not a fan of ... fish
>>> nothing with a fishy taste

Not a fan because of the "fishy taste?" The fishy taste is a sign of not being handled properly. If the cook uses only the fresh fish and store and cook them properly, they don't taste fishy. That is my experience at all the proper French restaurants.

I have encountered fishy taste at casual eateries in the U.S. French cooks at respectable restaurants would not even think of using anything but the fresh catch of the day in season.
