Paris Day Trip
 

Hi,

I am treating my mother to a six day vacation to London the first week in March and we would like to do a day trip to Paris. In searching this site I've come across some great information on places to purchase the tickets for the eurostar.

But one of the sites recommended, eurostartickets.com, doesn't seem to be working so my question is this, if I buy two adult standard leisure round trip tickets from eurostar.com, and give my US address so they can be mailed here instead of my hotel address in London, will the price change and will I get these in the mail or will I have to pick them up at the train station?

We are going to do the hop on hop off bus tour around the city and I was hoping someone could tell me if the place to meet this bus is close to the train station.

One last question. My mother is a bit concerned about the language barrier as neither of us speaks French. I have been learning the basics but am afraid I will butcher it once I get there. I don't think we will have a problem as most places around the tourist areas will speak English but if anyone could verify this for her I would appreciate it.

You will have as much trouble with the language barrier in London as in Paris.

It took me three days to understand English as spoken in England.

In Paris, you will be among people who make their living from foreign tourists. They speak many languages. Bring a phrase book.

It's very easy to book tickets online at eurostar.com and pick your tickets up at a self service machine when you get to Waterloo. Just be sure to have your confirmation number with you, and bring along the credit card you used when you booked your tickets. Your London-Paris and Paris-London boarding passes will be printed out at the same time.

I think the L'Open Tour Bus meets fairly close to the Nord and the price is $34.00 per person.

I think the closest stop would be in the Place de l'Opera [Opera Garnier], and the easiest way to get there would be by cab. Or by Metro with one transfer. You may wany to find out exactly where the stop is, because several streets converge there.

One more question, we are departing on the 5:30 eurostar. What time do the buses and tube start in the morning? Will it be possible to take either from our hotel near Euston Station to Waterloo? Thanks for all the great information.
