Paris, City of Light - Background Info
 

Came across this snippit on the man who "lit up Paris" in the recent past...found it interesting, especially since I'll be the first one to admit enjoying Paris by Night.

The city of light designation dates well back before modern illumination. Light and its effects powered the imagination of the Impressionist art movement. Monet's water lilies, Renoir's summer fetes, all that smeared light in the cafes when it was raining -- those paintings are about light.
Anyone who has been in Paris in September can appreciate how the city glows in the evening hours. The limestone buildings grasp and hold the lingering twilight. The light can seem eternal.
Every Paris intellectual considers it an inherited duty to expand the enlightenment. That legacy is far more than a twinkle on the Eiffel or floodlights across a square.

Southam: The video does in fact cite the origins of the title, "City of Light" and it no way, imo, tries to minimize the legacy of the great French philosophers to <a twinkle on the Eiffel or floodlights across a square.> nor does it elevate François Jousse to some heroic pedestal; I just found it to be a nice story with interesting recent historic value and beautiful photography.

With so much negative around us, it's nice to see something uplifting once in a while, at least that's my thoughts on the story.
