Paris: Chance major museums/landmarks could be closed during war?
 

If the US does go to war with Iraq in the next few weeks, what are the chances that the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc. might be closed?

I'm sorry, but why would they be?<BR>Unless there is a specific terrorist threat received, I can't see why.

As elaine pointed out, if terrorist activity is perceived to be a problem, then it is possible that some sights might be closed at certain periods.

Thanks for the replies. I only ask because I heard that some US tourist attractions might be closed if we declare war due to the fear of increased terrorist activity. <BR><BR>

And some students think that we will cancel classes. No way!

I think that the security measures for all public buildings have been reinforced, but they should not be closed.

Paris museums are more likely to be closed due to a strike by anyone from the ticket-takers to the guides.<BR>

There is no war yet, but the 20th century exhibition (Picasso, Chagall, Matisse...) in Center Pompidou is closed. The Center charged me 11 euros for two tickets to the Museum, but it was only a modern garbage on the 4th floor. The 5th floor with the famous painters was closed by March 17 with a small ad (in French) at the entrance to the floor. There was no warning at the ticket office. And it was last week. What a deception!

The chances of the museums being closed due to strikes are much greater than the chances of them being closed due to terrorism. Staff at the Paris museums have been striking on-and-off for the past several years. The Louvre was closed (due to strikes) during both of my previous two visits to Paris.<BR><BR>These strikes are completely unpredictable, so there is no way to know from one day to the next whether the museums will be open or closed.

Does anyone know if the 5th floor of the Pompidou Center is still closed, and if so, for how long?
