Paris central comfortable hotel about $100
 

I am going to be in Paris May 22, 23 and am having difficulty finding a hotel for 2 people for around $100. The places that many recommend on this site are booked. I have received messages from:Hotel Muguet, Hotel de l'avre, Hôtel des Grandes Ecoles, Calendal, HOTEL DU COLLEGE DE FRANCE, St Christopher, Hotel Cluny Sorbonne that they are full. Have heard from Hotel de la Porte Doree about a 64E room. Is this too far out? How long to get to a central location.
Is it worth it to stay at Hotel De Varenne for 120E or Hotel de Notre Dame or Hotel des Saints-Peres for 140E in terms of location, quality, comfort?

I would like to stay in the < 9 numbered arr. left or right bank but prefer Latin Quarter, St Germain, or Marais.

No one can say, we all have our opinions about what is acceptable location, quality, and comfort vis a vis price constraints.
In January I stayed in a hotel in an excellent neighborhood in the 6th, the Grand Hotel des Balcons, we were paying approximately 110-120 euros for a twin room (don't recall exactly ,but it wasn't more than that, at that time)
This hotel is a 2-star, almost universally praised. We tried two different rooms, decided we hated the hotel. Just down the street was a 3-star that we liked very much, the Delavigne. Our twin room was pretty good size, it was the same price as the Balcons room we had. We saw some doubles at the Delavigne that were quite small (one bed, not much other space), BUT the Delavigne is pretty, almost elegant, in excellent condition, pleasant and helpful staff, and I'd stay there again anytime if budget requires it and it's not summer (there's no a/c). There is an elevator. But all this said, it will cost you more than $100.

Look into the Residence Monge and the Hotel du Lys in the 4th, I haven't stayed there but they get good reviews usually. You can also look for reviews at tripadvisor.com

Since $100 is only about 77 euros, you're setting your sights rather low with regard to location, quality, comfort! Especially attempting to book at this late date.

You may wish to consider using Priceline, but you would want to do some serious homework at biddingfortravel.com before getting started. Or, you could request bidding assistance therein.

Hotel du Septieme Art in the Marais has rooms with shower for 75 euros. The rooms are small and nothing special, but the location is excellent.

Hotel Monge was 84 euros last time I stayed there (in 2002).

I wouldn't want to stay in the Hotel de la Porte Doree because of its location, but it might not bother you. There have been some posts on here from someone who stayed there, you could search for them.

It is late for only a couple weeks away, and you tried some of the most popular hotels mentioned in a lot of guides, mostly (never heard of Calendal, myself, though). There is a big gap between 77 euro and 140 euro, though, that's almost double. If you want to be more flexible, you might consider something in-between the two (Muguet is not 77 euro anyway, though, so it's hard to tell what your budget really is if that was a choice--I don't think the Grandes Ecoles is, either). I'm sure you can get a hotel for around 100-120 euro, and you are lucky in that you shouldn't require AC at that date.

You probably just have to try some more. I can't really recommend this place from personal experience, but I just booked it for July due to good reviews I've read and its location which is right near the Bastille Opera house -- just across the border from the Marais in the 12th. The Hotel Pavillon Bastille which does have last-minute rates of 115 euro for a double room on your dates, I checked (look under promotions). It's a 3* hotel.

A couple of weeks ago we were at the "Mercure Paris Cusset Opera", which is part of the Accor chain (its in the 2nd arr, at the corner of Richelieu/Haussman/Italiens/Montmatre, with the Richelieu-Drouot metro stop on the corner). We had 8 nights at 115eur/night and while not luxorious it was fine & the service was graet. As for location, its <1km from the Louvre down Richelieu, <1km from Gallarie Laffiette along Haussman, more resturants than you can imaging & good subway access.

There are lots of cheaper options at http://www.hrs.de so take a look for your dates. Lots of locations in the 14th would be more convenient than Porte Doree.

Also look for a deal on Comfort Hotel Bastille.

If you will consider the 9th arr., look at Hotel des Croises (Langois). Also look at either PORT Royal or PONT Royal (I forget which) in the 5th. Good luck.

The hotel in the 5th arr. I spoke of above is the Port Royal.

You might give a peek into laterooms.com... and you'll find discounted rooms that are offered and available.

Although I did not stay at the Port Royal, I went in and asked to see a room. It appeared to be a good value (I think 70-80 Euros, depending on room size) and is close to Rue Mouffetard.

Our double room on the street side in Hotel Monge earlier this month was 96E per night. If you email the hotel, they are very prompt with a reply. Our room had no shower, so we re-learned how to take baths.
