Do you carry a PDA or SmartPhone? You can download a free program from nanika.net/metro that will plot your bus routes for you. The only database you need is "Paris Bus" - although "Paris Tourist" will give Métro routes should the need arise.
Here's a sample of what the display shows you: http://nanika.net/metro/Images/gmetrop-en.gif |
I have to say, thank you again to all of the responses and help. I have no excuse for not learning the bus routes and using them on my upcoming trip - right? Of course there is no way I will admit to my mistakes upon returning, so you can forget about that. Guenmai thanks for the heads up on the L'Indispensible book, should have no problem picking that up and to everyone else a hearty thanks for taking the time to offer your input. Robespierre, no I will not have a PDA or SmartPhone but have to comment on your previous post regarding the handy-dandy guide to Paris Bus Lore, if you get lost ask for directions.......OK, so I may be able to use the phrase provided but would be in a world of hurt if they replied in rapid fire French as I am not a French speaker, only know the niceities. Now, once they see the puzzled look on my face and reply in English I would be fine!
Looking forward to my next adventure. Susan |
Have a great trip. And you'll be fine on the bus. It's so much fun. Happy Travels!

Hi Suspaul-I know you say you don't speak much French....but don't be surprised if folks strike up a conversation with you on the bus. It happens to me often. I especially remember the earful I go on the day after the 2004 elections after Bush was re-elected, and I was wearing my Women for Kerry button. I can't tell you how many times people wanted to know how come "we" had re-elected Bush! Obama should make for interesting conversations (and friendlier ones) these days!
