Paris Budget Hotel-Sept 2013 (Single; 100 Euros/night)
 

Hi, Fodorites.

I feel as if I'm getting a late start on this but hoping Paris-Lovers can help.

Been to Paris twice several years ago, but returning for 4 days/3 nights from London (in to Gare du Nord station)

Would like reccos on Paris hotels for a single woman for around 100 euros a night. Would need a private bath. B'fast not necessary. Not wanting a small hotel; more mid-size (30 + rooms) in case I have issues with noise, etc.

In the Latin QUarter, I'm looking at the

7 rue thenard, 75005 Paris, France (Panthéon)

Near this subway:
Maubert Mutualité (line 10) or Saint-Michel / Cluny la Sorbonne (lines 10, RER C and B)

Am able bodied. Have been to Paris twice before and stayed in the Latin Quarter and this area seemed quite nice, but it's been at least 5 or 6 years. I recall loving the walk around the Marais and Montmarte, so wouldn't be averse to staying in these areas, too.

Any thoughts? Both are in the 100-110 euro range.

That hotel would be fine for your needs. 30 rooms is pretty small for a typical Parisian hotel, I would call that small, nto midsize. I'd say 40-75 rooms is more like mid-size. I am not clear on what that size has to do with noise (or not), though. I am thinking maybe you think if the hotel is bigger, if you don't like your room, you can easily move? Not necessarily, a lot of good hotels get fully booked. For example, I often stay in a hotel I call mid-size and it has 46 rooms, it is very typical, one of those smaller hotels in an older building with rooms on about 5 floors. Actually, I might have even called it a smaller hotel.

anyway, your budget is a real challenge as September is high season rates, so that hotel you picked would be a good one as there aren't that many in a central area like that for only 100 euro. I'm no Paris hotel expert, but Champ de Mars is in the 7th, quite a different area than the Latin Quarter you were looking at. For me I'd prefer the more central 5th, although the area around Champ du Mar is quite charming and all. Just depends priorities.

Christina: Is the Saint Pierre the hotel where you often stay? Or just one you're suggesting to look at?

Suze: I'm very open to different arrondissements. It's been such a long while since I've been to Paris, and I recall I walked all over and had no issues with the subway. Perhaps a perk would be easy connections to/from Gare du Nord... but not a necessity.

We first stayed in Hotel Jeanne d'Arc le Marais about 15 years ago and was back for a week April 22-29. 1/12 blocks from St Paul metro or Bastille, bus 29, 96, 69 and 76. Down the street from Place des Vosges and I just walked down the rue de Rivoli to everything. If you are checking out the fab museums, about 8-10 are within blocks. www.hoteljeannedarc.com

cggigal, no the hotel I often stay at is more expensive. It used to be a real bargain and still is for its level (I just booked a double room for 130 euro for July when many other hotels are charging 160-170 euro that are cmoparable, for example). But in September, it also charges around 170 euro for a double now. Later July you can often get discounts on hotel rooms, and in August. ANyway, it's the Hotel Aiglon, but it would be too expensive for you.

I also just booked a room in the 3* Hotel Langlois for this July which I really like near Trinite church. But its singles are regularly 160 euro now, I think, in peak season. I got a deluxe single for 140 euro, but as I said, July is often cheaper than September. http://hotel-langlois.com/en/home.html

I haven't stayed at the St Pierre, just know its location and have seen a couple folks on Fodors who have stayed there say they liked it, that's all. It's just hard to find any hotel in central Paris with rooms for 100 euro nowadays, at least in September. So that's why I know the COllege de France does have good rates for that location and I do know someone who stayed there, also -- they liked it be said the rooms are really small, which I"m sure you can assume would be the case. The Hotel Langlois' rooms are very big, which is one reason I like it.

sorry I know so many 3* hotels, the problem is a lot of these used to be 2* but now are not.

We stay at Hotel Saphir Grenelle, not far from Eiffel Tower. Very close to three metro stops, easy walk to the river and to Passy...nice neighborhood....and the main reason we go back, one of the best baquette/patisseries we've ever found is just around the corner.

I have stayed at the Hotel Saint Pierre, love the location.. and the price. The rooms are tiny but functional, I had no problem with it and would stay again. Only complaint ( and for many people this would not be a big deal ) is that the rooms don't have mini fridges.. I like those to stock snacks.

Can also recommend Hotel Diana.. but frankly at this point I really doubt either hotel with have vacancies, but you never know.. good luck..

I have stayed at the Hotel College de France.

The staff is lovely.

The hotel is in an ideal location.

You can walk to Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, Ste.Chapelle, Rue Mouffetard from the hotel.

In vicinity of Laduree, Deux Magots, Cafe Flore.

There is also a Starbucks and Monoprix close by.

Thanks, all, for the replies. I've decided to postpone Paris till next year and extend my time in the UK this fall. However, I will definitely revisit these options for Paris when I return. Even though I was looking months out, I realize now I must book even earlier for these better, budget hotels. A sincere thanks for the advice... hopefully others will find the info. useful as well! (Though, I think 100 euros was unrealistic for Sept. and what I want... I'll have to budget more.)

Chgogal.. maybe not, but you will have to book in March or april for good deals in September at least..

Hotel Saint Pierre will be 100 euros or less.. but those rooms are snapped up fast,, I would even check in Feb for September.
