Partner had been there and enjoyed it. We returned together the following year and we were ignored by the staff (it was still early and empty). No one said "we're not ready yet" or "we'll be with you shortly" or anything. For like, maybe, 15 minutes. We walked out.

We always go for dinner on our first Saturday night in Paris. We book for a 9 or 9:30 dinner. The place is hopping, noisy, smokey but my DH always says that when he sits there in Balzar he "feels" Paris. We like the food. He always enjoys the Sole Meniure (sp) and I've tried the entire menu (except the Steak Tartare which is one of their specialties). Great lemon tarte. Usually, our dinner for two including apertifs, bottle of wine, brandy - runs about E130.

Balzar is the most "up" spot in Paris. We always feel good when we are there. Steak Tartare is superb, as can be the Poulet/frites; but please note they have been known to reheat the chicken if you arrive at an odd time. The house Bordeaux is excellent and a bargain. We have been comped a Kir when we reserve; just once I admit. Few tourists in evidence; lots of classy looking, well dressed locals.
