Paris Bistros off the beaten path in Paris
 

Would like recommendations on good bistros not over run with tourists in Paris. We'll have 7 nights to explore. Thanks

There is a very good choice of french specialties.

Le Pamphlet, 38 rue Debelleyme in the 3rd arrondissement. An astounding value for very creative southwestern French cooking.

Au Bascou, 38 rue Reaumur, also in the 3rd (closed Saturday and Sunday). Basque and delightful.

Here are my favorites. Dined at all of them this past April and last year as well. Will go back next year as well.

Astier in the 11th(Parmentier Metro Stop). This is a neighborhood bistro packed with people. Everyone comes for the delicious four course discovery menu which is immensely affordable and quite varied. There is a cheese course that will astound you. Make reservations. This actually got a write up in the NY Times Sunday Travel section within the past few months. It was mentioned as a part of what must have been easily a $3000 weekend in Paris. This place was the wild card in the feature. If you do not speak french..you must take a dictionary with you.

Any have more suggestions?

I would second the recommendations for Le Florimond, d''Chez Eux, and La Fontaine de Mars, but none of those is a "bistro."

Are you looking for authentic bistros or just good places to eat?

Hi, cmeyer54! I am leaving for Paris in two weeks with a group of eight people. I have just finished putting together for them a list of about 75 restaurants, cafes, sandwich shops, tea rooms, etc. in Paris that offer meals for less than 50 € per person. I have gleaned them mostly from recommendations made here and from Zagats. (Not sure how "un-touristy" they may be.) It includes addresses, phone nos., nearest metro station, approx. price for dinner and comments. Most places are in the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissements since that is where we will be staying, but there are some from other areas as well. I'd be happy to send you a copy if you like. Not off the beaten path exactly (in the 7th), but the Bistro de Bretheuil is good value for the $$. Seemed as though there were many "locals" when we ate there.

I know they are including a drink and tip, but even so. For some restaurants on my list Zagat's estimate for dinner is twice the price of a dinner menu posted by reservethebest.com. Maybe the latter is out-of-date?

I don't think that you really need recommendations for inexpensive restaurants (which is what a bistro should be) in Paris.

There should be at least a dozen within a short walk from your hotel.
